The cottage originally built circa. 1769 enjoys a central village location in Monyash, in a beautiful part of the Peak District. It has been sympathetically restored to provide quality coordinated accommodation throughout. With one bedroom, cosy lounge/diner with wood-burning stove and integrated kitchen, its perfect for couples wanting peaceful quality time together or a romantic break.

It's 150 metres from The Bulls Head public house and restaurant, with its excellent menu and warm friendly atmosphere and the adjacent Smithy Cafe, which is very popular with all visitors for breakfasts, all day food and occasional theme nights.

Avonlea sleeps two people in one generous bedroom, with a cast iron double bed and distressed pine furniture. Its tastefully decorated, fully carpeted with ample storage and wardrobe space. It includes a dressing table, stool, mirrors and the essential hair dryer.

The feature lounge / diner is extremely comfortable with entertainment essentials including TV/ DVD's,CD's, walking books, a variety of magazines, games, DVD's,CD's, and visitor information guides. Low level light from reading lamps create a soft mood, when coupled with the glow from the wood-burning stove.

There is a fully integrated kitchen with electric oven, hob, dishwasher and ample dinning and cooking utensils for even the largest feast. The kitchen enjoys countryside views over the secluded rear garden and the door opens out onto a patio.

The generously sized bathroom has a modern white three piece suite with a power shower over the bath, a wicker chair and is warmed by a heated towel rail and radiator. The bathroom also enjoys views over open fields and the countryside.


Internet Broadband is installed in the cottage and is free for guests use.

We provide many essentials to make your stay more comfortable and cost effective including all linen, towels, tea towels, toilet and kitchen rolls, dishwasher tablets, washing machine powder, fairy, scourers cleaning materials and dishcloths.

You only need to supply the food and drink.

We do leave you a complementary Sparkling Wine toast for your arrival.

Garden furniture comprises a bench on patio outside rear door and there is a dinning table and four chairs on second patio at end of rear garden for al fresco dinning with views over open countryside.

A family size charcoal BBQ is provided together with firelighters and fuel. (Guest are asked to replenish any fuel used by end of stay)

For some it's a wild and wonderful setting for outdoor activities from walking and cycling to abseiling and yachting. For others it's their favourite spot for a meal out - featuring fine local produce - with family and friends.

Peak District cottages are excellent places to stay to explore and enjoy all that the Peak District has to offer. Avonlea Cottage is located in the picturesque village of Monyash and is situated in a charming row of grit stone cottages.

Monyash is a small picturesque village, situated on the White Peak plateau, in the heart of the Peak District and is an ideal location for those wishing to explore the Peak District area by rambling, walking, cycling or driving.

Many guests come to pursue hobbies such as sightseeing, walking, cycling, photography, bird-watching, local history and fishing, within the scenic surroundings of the Peak District National Park. For others there is a wealth of Arts and Culture with Buxton Opera House and Pavilion Arts Centre, Sheffield’s Crucible, Lyceum Theatres and Millennium Gallery and many Craft Workshops, Arts Courses and Live music. There are year round Events and Festivals too.

Well known Peak District places within easy reach are Bakewell, Matlock, Castleton, Ashbourne, Ashford-in-the-water, Chatsworth House and Country Park to name just a few.

There are spectacular walks from the door of our cottage such as the famous Lathkill Dale and Monsal Dale trails. For cyclists there is the Tissington cycle trail.


Monyash, which is mentioned in the Doomsday book, is a small village of some 145 houses with approximately 280 residents, located in the middle of the Peak District in Derbyshire, England. The village lies in a shallow hollow in the limestone plateau at the head of Lathkill Dale.

Being in the centre of the Peak District it's an ideal base to explore the whole of the Peak District area.

Historic houses to visit:- Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall, Sudbury Halland Tissington Estate.

Golf Courses:- Bakewell, Ashbourne, Matlock, Buxton and others with 18 miles.

Active Sports:- Sailing, riding, fishing, cycling, rambling, walking, rock climbing, photograph, birdwatching

Interesting Places:- Heights of Abraham, Castleton Caves (Blue John), Crich Tramway, Magpie Mine at Sheldon, Matlock bath Gulliver's Kingdom and Abbeydale Inductrial Hamlet and Kelham Island both in Sheffield.

Owner comments:- We always leave sparkling wine for an arrival toast while you settle in and start relaxing. The electric central heating boiler is really quiet whilst operating and the programmable timer is set to off during sleeping hours, so its then silent.
