La Maison Saint-Firmin lies at the head of the historic 'Cave St Firmin', a cobbled street that was once the main thoroughfare into Montreuil. With the advent of the motor car, a gentler approach to the town was constructed, leaving the Cave St Firmin as a picturesque backwater with no traffic through. The house is within the rampart of the old town and a short walk from st Saulve and the cafés and restaurants of La place Gambetta.
The house has been newly renovated and benefits from a wood-burning stove in the sitting room, making it ideal for cosy winter week-ends as well as summer lets.

Montreuil is a fortified market town ringed by ancient walled ramparts looking out over picturesque countryside. Victor Hugo gained inspiration for the character of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables while walking round these ramparts and they remain much as they were when he visited Montreuil. The town has numerous hotels, bars and restaurants (including a couple of Michelin starred establishments), a theatre and cinema, specialist wine shops, cheese shops, chocolate makers, antique shops, art galleries, an auctioneer and charcutiers and patissiers to satisfy even the most avid gastronome.
Montreuil has a citadel fortified by Louis XIV’s engineer Vauban, and many historic buildings including St. Saulve, one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in northern France.
How to get there
Only one hour's drive from Calais ferry terminal and 45 minutes from the Euro-tunnel. Boulogne ferry port is 30 minutes.
