This enchanting town house nestles just below the ramparts of the medieval fortified town of Montreuil. The steep street leads to one of the arched entrances to the town and a wonderland of cobbled streets, ancient houses charming restaurants and shops. The whole of Montreuil is decorated with flowers, in hanging baskets, urns and beautifully planted public squares.

The house is very quaint, tall and thin with a room on each floor, connected by an amazing wooden spiral staircase. The ground floor has a compact corner kitchen, and a huge inglenook fireplaces decorated with local blue and white tiles. Northern France region

Montreuil-sur-Mer is an ancient fortified town, set among the gentle fields and marshes of Northern France. It is near enough to the coast to enjoy the wide sandy beaches, and the wonderful fish restaurants of Etaples and Boulogne, and the high life of Le Touquet.

Montreuil itself is a delightful town, with a good mixture of attractions for the holiday maker, and the general life of a small market town. The main square has several cafes with outdoor terraces to enjoy coffee, a drink or a meal outside (although the climate is not much better than the southern England!). There are two or three superb restaurants in the town if you feel like a treat, plus a good selection of moderately priced eateries. There is a superb cheese shop, good delicatessens and greengrocers if you prefer to eat at home.

The Pas de Calais has so many visitor attractions, that it is hard to list them. There are several wonderful bird reserves, gardens, chateaux, beaches, walking and hiking areas. For those interested in WW1, the battlefields of the Somme are an hour's drive away. Montreuil has a very good and helpful tourist information centre.

"Lovely cottage spoiled by cleanliness and attitude of owner"

The setting and location of this house are superb. Nestling on a historic street just below the town gate, we were impressed by the view from the outside. However immediately on entering it was clear … More

The guests called me to complain about the bed linen which I had personally washed, ironed and put on the bed prior to his arrival. As I couldn't verify his complaint I apologised and gave him a thirty percent refund (he asked for a full refund). I told him where to find fresh bedlinen, which they used. After their departure I examined the original linen and found nothing wrong.

This is my first complaint in five years of letting this property.
