The Normandy region
Our holiday cottage is situated on the edge of three Departmnents, Eure, Calvados and Orne which makes it the perfect location for discovering the never to be forgotten history but also the charm of which Normandy has to offer.
The nearest quaint little Town of Montreuil L'Argille is around 4km from our property with amenities such as Doctor/Chemist, Bakers, Butcher, Post Office, Hair dressers, Bank and restaurants. A 10 min drive and we have the Medieval Town of Orbec with its cobbled streets and timbered houses. Large Supermarket and Petrol Station, shops and restaurants. A tourist information centre will tell you of the many fetes and festivals taking place throughout the year.
Bernay is around 20 mins from us, a typical Normandy Town whose wonderful architecture reflects the tradition of the region. With Railway Station you can take a direct train and be in Paris within 1hr 20 mins. The Abbey, Museum and of course the French Market every Saturday are not to be missed. Lisieux 35mins with the breathtaking Basalica of Sainte Therese, the second largest pilgrimage site in France (After Lourdes). Cerza Zoo National Wildlife Park and the new 'La Nautile' indoor pool and water theme centre is a delight for all the family. Deauville with it's Casino, long sandy beaches and famous for the American Film Festival and Honfleur one of the most picturesque Ports of Normandy are approx. 1hrs drive. With Rouen (1hr) Le Mans, (1hl5mins) there is such a mixture and wealth of things to see and do. The area is steeped in history and famous of course for the wide selection of cheeses it produces. Apples which are made into the Calvados and cider. The local Camembert Factory and Livarot are worth a visit. Whether it's the beautiful countryside, sandy beaches, chateaux, gardens, horse riding (not forgetting the famous Haras du Pin 35 mins) you can feel sure Normandy is a delightful region.
