Further details indoors:
Although recently renovated l'Hibou retains the character of the old alongside the practicality of the new. It boasts a range of character features - original Tuffeau stone fireplace and antique hardwood beams throughout, lime-mortared stone walls, Loire curved window and door frames - but we have also retained its original 250 year old terra cotta tiled floor on the ground floor and it has a beautiful antique cast-iron log burning stove. Decorated with primary colours, it has a rustic feel.
It has been decorated throughout to a high standard and has a fully equipped modern kitchen, shower room and heating.
This gîte can sleep up to five – two adults and three children. If necessary a cot can be installed in place of the third bed.
It has a open-plan living/dining area downstairs with a built-in corner kitchen. The ground floor is tiled throughout.
The kitchen, with modern fitted units, is fully equipped with a combination oven/grill/microwave, induction hob, dishwasher, fridge, washing machine. An iron, folding airer/dryer and board are also supplied.
The dining area has a large table and six antique Thonet chairs.
The adjoining sitting area has a comfortable sofa, two chairs and coffee and side tables. A small flat television screen incorporates a slot-in DVD player with a USB interface. A small choice of DVDs is provided as are a small selection of board games and reading materials.
The open wooden staircase leads to a landing with a built-in wardrobe and cupboard with shelves and doors leading to bedrooms and shower room.
Bedroom 1 has a double bed with built-in side tables and a very large fully fitted wardrobe. Its double window enjoys a beautiful view across the courtyard, swimming pool and fields beyond.
Bedroom 2 has full size, 3ft bunk beds with an additional drawer bed, a chest of drawers and a velux window.
The fully tiled shower room/WC has a modern large headed shower with a thermostatic control for safety, wash-hand basin with hardwood storage shelves underneath, a heated towel rail and a low-level WC. The floor is tiled with non-slip tiles.
The shaded private garden with fruit trees, a barbeque and oak garden furniture is situated across the courtyard facing the heated swimming pool.
Boules and a selection of ball games are provided for outdoor use.
Further details outdoors:

The pool, with shallow end for children and security cover conforming to European norms, has comfortable hardwood loungers while the adjoining garden area - which contains a shaded sand-pit for our youngest visitors - may be used for games of badminton or boules.

The Loire Valley / Indre-et-Loire region

The Loire region, with its medieval towns and villages and its Renaissance châteaux, is not only steeped in history but is also famous as the "Garden of France". Its renowned vineyards mark the "Wine Trail while the variety of its fresh food seen at every local market never ceases to amaze. In addition it boasts more than 100 parks and gardens, many of national and international repute - including the Chaumont Garden festival.
The towns to visit include Montrichard, a gem of a small town on the Cher. The historic Loire towns of Blois, Amboise, Tours, Chinon and Saumur, all with their châteaux, markets, shopping and restaurants, although slightly further away are still within easy driving distance as is Bourges, a mediavel town and the ancient capital of the Capatien kings.
The Montresor area
For those who like seeing the odd historic building ... well, apart from our 12th. century village churches, the royal château in the citadel of Loches and the châteux of Valençay and Bouges ... the château of Montpoupon is within half an hour's drive while that of Montrésor a mere five minutes. In addition several other 12th. century religious buildings with direct links to Henry II Plantagenet are close at hand and, although we do have our very own mediaeval abbey in our village whose 15th. century gate straddles the village street, it is ... unfortunately ... not open to visitors.
For ramblers, marked footpaths follow our river valleys, link old villages, and crisscross the huge oak forests of Loches and of St. Aignan with their deer and wild boar; you can ‘get on your bike’ and expore the local villages or ‘saddle up’ for a ride along the bridle paths; there is golf, coarse fishing, canoeing and watersports, quad bike and microlight hire, hot air ballooning and even regional cookery workshops given by a talented local chef. There are two important areas nearby for birdwatchers - La Brenne and Louroux - and numerous activities for children of all ages one of the most popular of which is to visit the internationally acclaimed Zoo de Beauval only fifteen minutes from our door.
In addition to our local food markets (our nearest is Loches, 19km away) summer brings a glut of village fetes, food festivals and brocantes - mainly on Sundays and public holidays.
