Manor House | 9 bedrooms | sleeps 14
NEW TO THE MARKET. Le Manoir au Cèdre is a rare, if not unique, country manor in the heart of Gascony set on over 10 hectares of private grounds with views that go on forever. The property comprises of the original manor house, a bright & spacious restored chai for parties and games, and a separate, fully equipped nanny/au pair cottage.
It is a stunning house that has it's heart in its 18th century roots and its soul in the stunning countryside and vineyards that surround it. The house is virtually unmatched in its style and imagination in this rural idyll, with gorgeous interiors, wonderful original features matched with immense good taste, and contemporary flair.
It's luxurious without a whiff of stuffiness; at once guests feel at home and relaxed yet cossetted and pampered.
Antiques blend seemlesly with modern touches, and nothing feels out of place. From the stunning, bespoke modern kitchen to the gorgeous dining room & salon, the house loses none of its essential character yet still manages to feel contemporary and light. It's grown up and playful at the same time. Each of the large double bedrooms benefit from the famous Gascon summer light, and all of the original wooden floors and ceiling details remain. Bed linens are superb and the beds in the double rooms are large - either king or superking. The children's rooms are utterly charming and delightful, and suit all ages.
The wonderfully spacious party house with mezzanine galleries - adjacent to the manor house - was renovated from the original chai / wine pressoir in 2011 and offers a fantastic space for relaxation, parties, fun and games.
Outside there is a gated, enclosed pool - 12m x 5.5m, hard tennis court, boules, cricket, gardens, a dining terrace and a second sun terrace overlooking the vineyards.
Private, fully equipped nanny/au pair cottage.

About this location
The Midi-Pyrénées region
Gascony is quite a revelation to anyone unfamiliar with the region. Truth be told, it's more or less ignored by anyone other than the intrepid pilgrims winding the walking routes from central France to Santiago de Compostella. Which is precisely why The Gers is totally untouched and gloriously spoilt for natural beauty. The countryside is all rolling hills and farmlands. In summertime the fields are running amok with sunflowers and vines with views stretching as far as the Pyrenees. With absolutely no light pollution, the night sky is unbelievable. The Gascons are well fed, long living, passionate and just about the friendliest people a perfect stranger could meet. And why wouldn't they be?
Gascon Summers are hot without being scorching. in May the countryside is in first flower with irsises and acacia trees bursting with purples, yellows and whites, June is warm, sunny and mild, July and and August hot and dry with the odd spectacular thunderstorm lighting up the sunflower fields and vineyards. Summer also means the arrival of the bustling town markets that set out their stalls from place to place during the week. The Ferias (Local Festivals) start in earnest in May and continue all the way through the summer months. For sixteen days in August the Jazz Festival in Marciac - about an hours drive south - blows hot and irresistible, and is recognised as the greatest jazz music fesitval in Europe.
This is home to Armagnac and bas Armagnac, Floc de Gascogne (an aperitif), local red & white wines - many are excellent if not cheap, some cheap if not excellent. Armagnac, however, remains the pride of the region. Vineyards & estates are more than welcoming and invite you to taste, re-taste and buy directly.
The food is - for all the duck fat & liver, cassoulet and confit - one of the healthiest diets of any region in France. Most restaurants serve this hearty diet in it's traditional way - many are more inventive and exciting. More importantly, children are always welcome at any restaurant or brasserie as the family remains the beating heart of the region.
