Montpon area

Les Grandes Vignes is situated in the quiet and peaceful countryside near Montpon-Ménestérol in the Dordogne. A few minutes away in Soubie there is a very popular boulangerie and tea shop. The town of Montpon-Ménestérol is only a 6 min drive away where you will find supermarkets, restaurants and banks. There is a swimming lake, horse riding, canoeing and fishing, all can be reached within 10 mins.

Some of the nearby places of interest:

Lac de Gurson (12mins)
Lac de Gurson is a wonderful enclosed lake with sandy beaches, beach front bars & restaurants, a huge water chute, and a children's play area. The lake provides safe swimming and is perfect for children of all ages.

Castillon-La-Bataille (19mins)
This historic town on the Dordogne is well worth a visit. Castillon La Bataille is famous for the hundred-year war which ended in 1453 when the French finally defeated the British. Every summer the people of Castillon La Bataille conduct a fantastic spectacular to commemorate the historic victory.

Saint Emilion (30mins)
Saint Emilion is famous for it's red wine. There are free tours and guided tours of the vineyards. The town of Saint Emilion is fantastic and waiting to be explored.

Libourne (35mins)
Libourne is just over half an hour's drive and has lovely shops and street markets.

Hautefort (1hr 20mins)
To the north of the Périgord blanc, on the border of the Périgord noir and perched high on a rock is the castle Hautefort. This castle was once a medieval fortress and probably built on an original Roman encampment. One of the most prestigious chateaux in the south west of France, and classified as a historical monument, it is surrounded by a park and gardens of exceptional beauty designed à l'Anglaise.

Les Eyzies (1½hrs)
Les Eyzies is one of the most frequently visited villages in France. This is the first site where Cro Magnon (ancestor of Homo Sapiens) was discovered. Many journey on the river, either by canoe or kayak start here.

La Roque Gageac (1hrs 50mins)
La Roque Gageac is a beautiful riverside village, where the solid houses cling to the vertical bank of the valley of the river, with access up staircase streets.

Rocamadour (2hrs 10mins)
Just over the border in the Correze is one of the most gravity defying cliff clinging villages in this part of France. Many of the village buildings are built on the face of a vertical cliff. Rocamadour has a massive fort at the foot of the cliff, which once housed visiting pilgrims. There are wonderful views of the valley and the rooftops of Roacamadour from the summit of the cliff. (You can either climb the steps or take the lift).
