There are also the world famous natural Étangs of the Petite Camargue with its wild flamingoes and white horses.
20 minutes north leads into the mountains with spectacular scenery, ancient villages and the meandering river Hérault with its gorges, natural caves and canoeing and kayaking facilities.
In only 15 minutes you are in the historic centre of Montpellier, with its impressive 16th century cathedral and a labyrinth of mediaeval lanes lined with street cafés and restaurants. There is an abundance of architectural treasures, museums, theatres, parks with fountains, vibrant street markets, and the Place de la Comédie, where the locals mingle with visitors and tourists from all over the world.
Montpellier / Grabels area
The village of Grabels has various shops, including its own fresh bakery, butcher, 2 grocery stores, pharmacy, post office, a small bar, a restaurant and a weekly street market. There are horse riding stables nearby, and also an International Go-Karting circuit about 8 kms away. For Golf enthusiasts there is an excelllent 18-holes Golf course 7km away at St Gély du Fesc. Arrière Pays and Route des Vins: Apart from enjoying the colourful bustle of the long stretches of fine sandy beaches or river swimming you can explore the tranquil and beautiful “arrière pays” (back country) and discover the Languedoc wine route where some of finest French wines can be enjoyed. Languedoc is now the biggest wine growing region in France and therefore it is not surprising that its wines are enjoying a true renaissance in French wine culture.

Guestbook for Villa des Cigales
We met up with our family from South Africa for a truly memorable holiday in your beautiful villa, which was so comfortable that we got really lazy and spent a lot of our time around the pool and didn't do as much sightseeing as we had planned! Kevin from Basel in Switzerland.
It was our best holiday for many years! You really have thought of everything to make our stay so enjoyable. Loved the wide beach at l'Espiguette of Le Grau du Roi and river swimming at the spectacular Pont du Diable. We only wished we could have stayed another week. Annabel of Putney, London
We loved staying at your villa, so spacious and the pool was great. The locals in the village were very friendly and we can strongly recommend the 'Le Boeuf musician' restaurant in the village. Richard and family, Oslo, Norway
Just wanted to thank you for our wonderful stay at Villa des Cigales - we all had a fantastic time. The villa was even better than we hoped and Grabels was perfect too. Claire and Fadi were very accommodating and helped us no end. Thank you again for a memorable holiday! Best wishes, Steven & Alison, Maureen & Norrie Holton and Caroline & Emily of Ryhall near Stamford, UK
