Home description
Enjoy Christmas or New Year in our restored townhouse which dates back to 1753. All rooms are en suite. This pretty house has a very French feel. Enjoy a delicious continental breakfast or request a full English if you prefer. Park your car (for free) and walk to all the town's many amenities. Enjoy the historic streets and squares. We are ideally suited for a short stay to break your journey or come for a longer visit and explore the area more fully.
Montignac enjoys 2 markets every week Wednesday and Saturday, and several boutiques offer locally made items. Canoe the river or walk and/or cycle the lanes surrounding the town. Tennis, golf, horse riding and swimming are nearby but the area's claim to fame is in its history.
Experience the ancient town of Roc St. Christophe cut into the very face of a limestone and granite cliff which has been inhabited since neolithic times and re-inhabited during the hundred years war.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
Dordogne is a department of south west France in the region of Aquitaine. It is named after the great river that crosses the area. The old name for Dordogne was the Perigord and the people living here call themselves Perigourdins. Montignac is in the Perigord Noir or Black Perigord named after the black oak forests which border the rivers.
The towns and villages are lively with bars and restaurants but Dordogne is a large region and if you like the quiet life, it is easy to lose yourself on the back roads among divine scenery, quaint inns and sublime food.
The local cuisine makes the most of local produce of truffles, foie gras and confit de canard, accompanied by regional wines from Bergerac and of course Bordeaux. The climate is mild most of the year, being so far south, with summer temps in the 70's-80's.
Montignac area
There are many, many places to visit in the Dordogne, including castles, chateaux, bastide towns, and cave fortresses. The history is well preserved, and the scenery often dramatic, set among steep hills and plunging valleys.
Sightseeing is first rate and visits can be arranged from the Office de Tourism in the centre of Montignac, just a short walk from the Chambres d'hote. There is a cinema in town and art and music expositions abound.
While days can be busy and filled with things to see and do, many restaurants offer quiet patios and terraces by the river, where you can unwind from the day, meet with friends and enjoy the local food and wines in a wonderful relaxing atmosphere.
