Le Charme de Courtissous
About the home
Le Charme de Courtissous - Holiday Cottage/Gite, in the gardens of the Villa des Courtissous, is located in the north of the very touristic Perigord Noir, 40kms from Sarlat, between Brive and Perigueux, on the edge of the village of St. Rabier, which organises a book and author festival in August every year.
Quiet and peaceful, yet only fifteen minutes from the larger tourist sites such as Montignac with the Lascaux Caves and Hautefort with its extraordinary Loire Valley Castle, the cottage is both modern and comfortable. It has easy access to all amenities, including the local produce market on Sunday mornings, the village grocery store with its delicious bread and croissants, and many near-by excellent restaurants for eating out, including of course the Grand Coderc, 'ferme-auberge', well-known for its excellent food...and folklore owner!
Easy access from Limoges, Bergerac and Brive Airports and the A20 & A89 Autoroutes.
The gite benefits from private parking, covered games area and huge garden of 4 acres where you can just relax under the magnificent shady trees and of couse, you will enjoy the pool, with its inviting sunbeds and a shallow end perfect for the children.
Leading from the living room is an outside eating area, furnished with a table and chairs to enable you to dine in the sun- (or moon-)light, perhaps using the barbecue facilities. With two double and one twin bedroom, the gite is ideal for couples or families, with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay. We also supply tourtist information on how to enjoy your stay to the full.

Enquire nowThe Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
Shamwari Cottage, in the gardens of Villa des Courtissous is in a quieter part of the Dordogne, slightly off the beaten track, but still close enough to the touristic Valley of Prehistoric Man, the Vézère Valley with its famous "grottes de Lascaux" , or 10 kms from the unexpected Chateau of Hautefort, built in the XVIth century, or to the very busy Dordogne Valley with its cliffs, castles, riverside and bastide towns or troglodyte villages and the extraordinary medieval town of Sarlat la Caneda. Perigueux with its magnificent cathedral and memorable museums is just as interesting to visit as Brive with its charming town centre. To see the unending number of exquisite villages, you can canoe down the rivers, go up in a hot-air balloon, ride horses or simply drive around the Dordogne, or why not go cycling or hiking?
This part of France is very well-known for the quality of its cuisine, its wine from near-by Bordeaux and Bergerac and the breathtaking beauty of its sights.
The weather is generally good, with sunny, hot summers, and often spectacular Indian summers during the very colourful autumn.
The Montignac / Saint Rabier area
Lots of festivals in spring and summer: street theatre in Sarlat, summer festival and riverside beach in Brive, mime in Perigueux, classical music in numerous charming villages and towns around the Périgord Noir, book fair in St Rabier, world music and dance in Montignac, jazz in Souillac and Bergerac.
Here at Villa des Courtissous, we organise three permanent exhibitions on our property: stone sculptures, recycled metal art and contemporary art paintings from Zimbabwe.
Zimbabweans artists come to the Villa on residency programmes and organise stone-sculpting, contemporary art and mbira music workshops in the spring and summer.

This is a very spacious Gite which we thoroughly enjoyed using. Shayne and Bernard were very welcoming and gave us ideas about where to visit. The village is only a short walk away and there is a supermarket in nearby Hautefort (short drive away). There are lots of interesting places to visit on days out although you will need a car for these. The children loved the pool which is shared by the guests at the Guest House. This gave us the opportunity to meet new people. |
