Nestled in the Perigord region of France, MONTIGNAC is perhaps most famous for its prehistoric caves (the Grottes de Lascaux) and for its feudal quarter, complete with narrow streets and houses built on stilts.

In and Around Montignac:

The impressive châteaux at Castelnaud and Marzac are both worth a day's visit, as are the renowned "Grottes de Lascaux" (prehistoric caves - 5 minutes drive from Montignac itself). Plus, don't forget to sample plenty of the delicious specialities on offer throughout the region!

Make the most of the region's beautiful countryside whilst staying in Montignac by following the various rambling and horse-riding trails available for all ages and abilities, as well as climbing and caving for more adventurous visitors. Plus, the resort offers golf and tennis facilities for something a little more relaxing and familiar. Foodies should make sure they try the numerous local delicies on offer in Montignac's shops and restaurants, such as confits, foie gras, and local wines.

Four colours for four areas forming the one and only Perigord.

* LE PERIGORD VERT (Green Perigord):

The northern part of Perigord is a green gem, hilly and crisscrossed with streams. This is where you will also find the Perigord-Limousin National Park.

* LE PERIGORD BLANC (White Perigord):

Located in the centre of the area, this is mostly a limestone plateau with large meadows, with rivers Auvezere and Isle running through it.

* LE PERIGORD NOIR (Black Perigord):

This part of Perigord owes its name to the dark colour of oaktree leaves, it is also famous for its landscapes, prehistoric sites, mediaeval villages and castles hanging to the edge of cliffs. Come and visit Lascaux, Montignac, Sarlat...

* LE PERIGORD ROUGE (Red Perigord):

The Perigord of Vineyards (hence the colour...) located towards the mouth of river Dordogne; come and enjoy this newly established wine country.
