The Tuscany region
Podere Prati is situated just 1 km from the 110-soul village of Travale and 6 km from Montieri. It belongs to the Alta Maremma and "Colline Metallifere". Podere Prati is some 485 meters above sea level. Here you find the wild and unspoiled Tuscany.
However, in less or slightly more than an hour's drive, you can reach: Siena, Florence, San Gimignano, Volterra, Massa Marittima. Remains of the Etruscan civilization can be found at Populonia, Vetulonia and Saturnia at a similar distance. The beautiful beaches of the Tyrrhenian Sea near Follonica are only 50 minutes away. And a trip to the wine growing Chianti region, to Radda, Greve or Castellina in Chianti, will not take any longer.
The municipal territory of Montieri extends for 108.34 square kilometres in a mountainous zone in the "Colline Metallifere" between the valleys of the rivers Merse and Cecina.
Montieri is a quiet vacation spot, surrounded by green chestnut, oak and beech forests and by two Natural Parks, called Campo al Pera and Piano. Both parks draw large numbers of tourists in the summer months. Montieri and the surrounding area have always been tied to mining. The silver colour of the rock is striking, as can be seen in the massif delle Cornate that resembles a lunar landscape.
