'Casetta' is uniquely located on the highest hill with Lucardo on top and with splendid views over the Tuscan hills. The restoration in Tuscan stile was completed in 2013.
It is principally a B&B with two rooms and as such adapted for short breaks.
But in low season I let the whole house also for a long term (preferably at least 1 month) when I live in Holland. For example for a sabbatical or people who want to get inspired by all the beauty in the surroundings to write, make music, read.
In that case I make you a special price which includes the use of my sitting room and kitchen and both bedrooms: only € 900 per month excl. the costs for heating, electricity, gas and water. This is the basic price for 1 person. Every person extra pays € 3,75 p.d..The max. is 4 persons, but eventually there is in the basement a room with a bed for 2 persons and bathroom.
Their are in total two bedrooms.
There is one bedroom with two single antique beds which can be changed in a double bed. The other bedroom has a double bed and both are tastefully designed. The showers in the bathrooms (one up next to the bedrooms and a small one down) have gold and red mosaic. Each bathroom has also a toilet, bidet, sink, hairdryer.
The big oak offers shadow. The temperature inside the house is always agreeable in summer time, because the hill is the highest one in this area (420 m.) and the house doesn't need air conditioning as it has geothermally cooled floors. At only 1 km distance you can use nearly for free the swimming pool of a hotel.
There is WIFI available for guests and also a private parking.
You can sit outside on the terrace at the rear to see the sunrise or else sit on the terrace in the front to see the sunset over the hills; in each case the view is always marvelous.
There is a possibility for (classical) musicians to perform concerts thanks to the magnificently restored Pleyel grand piano. In that case I can make you a special offer for the use of the piano.
You can also rent 2 mountain bikes.
There is also a large and cool basement that can be used by groups paying a supplement.
If there is a need for extra bedrooms then there is a second B&B nearby.
The best way to get around is by (hired) car. Public transit you will find in Certaldo where you can take the train to Firenze, Siena and Pisa. Tavarnelle has good bus connections, as well as Montespertoli. From Certaldo leaves a bus to Lucardo, but not frequently. But you can take a 15 min. taxi drive.
Around the "Casetta" there is a large terrain with 32 olive trees. There is nearly no traffic on the roads and the paths in the neighborhood, so it is a lovely place for a walk or to go by mountain bike through the vineyards and the olive orchards, even for hours if you want. It is the ideal place for cyclists, walkers and lovers of art.
if you would like some local wine, a cold beer, some cheese or salami, or maybe olive oil to take home, we'd gladly sell it to you for a modest price!
You can find a very good local restaurant in the lower part of Lucardo, it is only a 5-10 minutes walk away.
On top of the hill there is the medieval borough of Lucardo. The hill was already in ancient times used by the Etruscans. Later from the 8th century on the castle was built, besieged, destroyed and rebuilt. The current walls are late medieval and completely kept. The borough is currently being restored. Next to the borough there is a little church with a majolica baptismal font.
You can find Lucardo between Florence and Siena, in the middle of Tuscany. Florence, Firenze in Italian, is known for artists like Brunelleschi and Michelangelo in the times it was reigned by the Medici; it's only 32 km away. Much smaller, but also very famous is San Gimignano with its 13 towers, that's 24 km away. Even more nearby at 10 km is Certaldo where the medieval poet Boccaccio has been born and also died. It is situated high on a hill, has a magnificent town hall and a ditto museum. Nearby you will find Tavarnelle with its shops, a large COOP supermarket and its lovely small restaurants. In Fiano, at one and a half chilometer from Lucardo there are the essential things, such as a postoffice and a pharmacy. Then there is Volterra at 48 km, also founded by Etruscans and still breaths the middle Ages. You cannot leave Tuscany without visiting Pisa at 80 km and certainly not only for its tower.
But there is not only culture in Tuscany: the "Casetta" is surrounded by beautiful castles and wine-factories. You can visit them, have a tasting of selected wines and look inside very old wine cellars.
The "Casetta" is a unique place to stay because of its high and central position, on which you will think back wistfully when you have left it, but where you for sure will want to return.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is world famous. Of course, because this region in the middle of Italy is full of culture, nature, hills, sea, mild climate in spring and autumn, warm summers. And of course: wine and olives! The olive oil of Tuscany is one of the best. The Chianti route is full of wine factories where you can taste wines. Tuscany is very good organized. There are so many things to see. Cities as Florence and Siena. But also smaller ones like San Gimignano and Certaldo, with plenty of history inside their city walls with towers. During summertime nearly all of the places have their own festivals: music, food, wine, folkloric. And most of the times: outside, because of the nice timid evenings.
In the particular area of Montespertoli are plenty of old wine castles, with noble families, ready to receive you for a nice lunch, inclusive wine tasting and a tour over the property. From B&B "Casetta" you can make several trips, making a stop for a wine tasting, or for a walk in a mediaeval little town. The roads are good and quiet in this part of Tuscany. The views are spectacular, hills with hundreds of olive trees and vineyards, changing there colors with every season. You can also go for endless walks and then occasionally meet a pottery or a farmer who makes his own olive oil and wine. In the little old towns you can still find handcraft shops where they sell handmade leather shoes and bags, or shops with lovely decorated paper.
