The Tuscany region

Tuscany is located in central Italy and it is famous for both its beautiful and varied landscape and artistic heritage. Medieval villages, historical towns and castles, country abbeys and monasteries abound and then of course there is Florence, birthplace of Michelangelo, the city famous for its beautiful architecture and wonderful museums and art galleries. Tuscany is also famous for its many spas: Montecatini, Saturnia, Montepulciano, Monsummano and Bagno Vignoni, which offer relaxing holidays thanks to their thermal waters and well-equipped facilities for all types of treatments.

Montepulciano

Montepulciano (605m above sea level), is built along a narrow limestone ridge, the present town was designed in 1511 and is encircled by walls and fortifications. Inside the walls the streets are crammed with Renaissance jewels, but the town is most famous for its wine.

In July/August there is an international arts festival and from 14 to 16 August there is the Bruscello festival when hordes of actors reenact scenes from the town's turbulent history. For the Bravio delle Botti, on the last Sunday in August, there is a parade through the streets followed by a barrel race and a banquet to end the day.
