The Valenciana region

The Northern Costa Blanca is renowned for its climate. The summers are long and hot and the winters are short and cool. The rain which falls mainly in the winter has made this land lush and productive. Here you will find orange groves ripe with fruit and in the Spring the hills and valley are covered in almond blossom. Rice is also grown here for this is birth place of the paella, the baked rice dish synonymous with this part of Spain. The region is well known for its cuisine

The coastline is a mixture of dramatic rocky cliffs plunging into the sea and wide sandy beaches sweeping out towards the horizon. Just behind the coast are majestic mountains with beautiful valleys and picturesque hilltop towns.

Valencia has a rich culture and history which are celebrated throughout the region and throughout the year in a range of festivals or fiestas. The more famous of thees are 'Las Fallas' which celebrate renewal and Valencian culture and are held in March, and 'Los Moros y Cristianos' which celebrates the Christian reconquest of Moorish Spain in the 12th Century. These wonderful pageants are held in towns throughout the year.

The Valencia region has something for everyone.

Denia is located in the centre of the Valencia region. It has good communication links being only 1 hour from both Alicante and Valencia airports. This is the largest and most cosmopolitan resort on the northern Costa Blanca or Marina Alta. It offers a wide range of amenities for the holiday maker. To the south are the rocky cliffs and coves of the Marine Natural Park are perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving as well as sun bathing. Lovers of sandy, family-friendly beaches can find 10km of them just a short walk from the town centre. The beaches are wide and the water is shallow. For the energetic there are a myriad of sports to pursue such as wind surfing, kayaking, volley ball, quad biking and cycling to name but a few.

The back drop to Denia is the Montgo mountain with its hiking trails. The views across the bay and the mountainous valleys of the hinterland are breath taking.

Denia not only has two marinas but is also a working fishing and ferry port. Denia is the closest mainland port to the Balearic islands and there are sailings everyday. Being a working town Denia has all the supermarkets and large shops that you would expect in a large town as well as a large number of boutiques and specialist retailers. It is renowned for its tapas bars and restaurants especially those in the old town centred around Calle Loreto and those in the old fisherman's quarter which lies beneath the shadow of the castle.

Denia enjoys celebrating its culture and history (in fact Denia has more holidays or fiestas than any other town in Spain). The main fiesta is held ion July when there is bull running through the main street. In March the town celebrates 'Las Fallas' when huge effigies are erected in the streets and ceremoniously burnt on st Joseph's day, 19 March. In August the town celebrates the reconquest of Spain with a week long 'battle' between the Moors and the Christians. However, it does not end in tears but rather in beers, lots of them and lots of parades and dressing up.

Denia offers something for everyone
