Home description
This villa, situated on a large property with undisturbed view and a large swimming pool, is ideal for family vacations. The most breathtaking of it all is the tranquility and the 'sound of silence'. In this region Saint Francis talked with animals and after a stay you, you'll fully understand how that was possible.
On top of all of that the food and wine are delicious, people are friendly and helpful and if you get tired of the tranquility and silence, there are plenty of excursions to take in the vicinity (Orvieto, Rome, Firenze, Todi, Perugia, Assisi, ...)

The Umbria region
From the house you have the breathtaking view of the green mountains, where oak trees and olive gardens grow in the fertile ground.
Summer temperatures can reach the higher 20s/lower 30s° C, but being situated on a height of 389 m a.s., the nights are nice and cool (not cold) Winter can be cold, but mostly sunny. However that a nightly storm can wipe the air clean every once in a while. Every season in the green Umbria, which is by the way called 'il cuore verde d'Italia' (= the green heart of Italy) has it's own beautiful colours.
For those who like to go on long day trips, there is a lot to see in the area. Rome is just 1 hour by train and can also be easily reached by car and Firenze can be reached in a little less than 2 hours (trains leave from the nearby Attigliano/Bormarzo for Rome and from Orvieto for Firenze). Orvieto is a must see if you are in the area, with it's Duomo and the Capella di San Brizio. Viterbo, where for a while the Popes resided, Civitą di Bagnoreggio ('Il paese che muore' = the village that is dying), Amelia, Caprarola with the Palazzo Farnese, Bomarzo with the 'Parco dei Mostri', ...
We could go on and on.
Montecchio area
Montecchio is situated on the flank of the Monte Croce di Sera aside the Tiber valley. For those who do not like making daytrips, Montecchio itselve has some nice things to offer. First of all there is the 'centro storico' the mideaval centre of town, where not even a car can enter, but which is still very much alive and where people still live like some 100 years ago. Montecchio has a archeological site, the 'Necropoli Pre-romano di Vallone San Lorenzo', where pre-roman graves can be visited and where you can get either by car or by taking the nicely indicated walkway through the forrest.
Montecchio is widely known for it's olive-oil, some say even the best in the world. The ART of growing, keeping, harvesting and making olives and their oil can be investigated in the town's own olive oil museum. If you make an appointment they will be more than glad to give you a taste of what they have to offer.
During the month of August there is a 'sagra' almost every day in the village itselve or in one of the villages in the vincinity : Montecchio has it's 'sagra del cinghiale' (wild boar), 'sagra del bignč', .... On these occasions the whole town meets in the streets, eating, drinking, talking, or just watching.
At Christmas time the location of Tenaglie offers a 'Presepe vivente' : every single person in town has his/her own task : there is a mother Mary and a Joseph, a baby Jesus, pastors, animals, the children are making cheese or bread (which is offered to the visitors by the way), and all this in the 'cantina's' of the houses in the street with every participant in an original costume. There is also the 'festa del olio nuovo', 'festa delle castagne', the procession of the holy madonna, and so on.
How to get there
The nearest airports in Rome are a little over an hours' drive away. Simply fly into Rome (Easyjet, Ryanair, ... all have regular flights) where you can rent a car (All major car rentals can be found at the airports) and make your way to the villa.
