The Tuscany / Pistoia Province region

The Pistoia province of Tuscany has a very mild climate with sunshine all year round. Spring time and Easter is an excellent time to visit with warm days, sunshine and crystal clear blue skies. A little chilly in the evenings and so perfect for a log fire. May through to September is hot with August being the hottest month. All through this season its possible to sunbath during the day and spend mild evenings on the terrace dining and drinking local wine.
The Nievole region produces its own local olive oil and our gardener, Alessandro runs the local olive press. Olive oli produced from our trees is available for you to taste.
The property is ideally located for you to visit Florence, Lucca, Sienna, San Gimignano, Viareggio and the Chianti Trail.
The Montecatini Terme / Nievole area
Montecatini Terme is a beautiful town that was built around its mineral water springs and spas. It is a shoppers paradise with many designer shops and outlets.
Montecatini Alto is the original Montecatini settlement, lying a few hundred metres above the 'new' town. The views from here are splendid, and the delightful Piazza Giusti is home to some excellent bars and restaurants.
Monsumano Terme has an 18 hole golf course and an outdoor thermal swimming pool (open all year round and very warm)
Florence (Firenze) is the regional capital of Tuscany. The town is situated on the river Arno, which is spanned by the famous Ponte Vecchio. Florence's most striking landmark is Brunelleschi's dome on the Duomo, and its most reproduced sight is Michelangelo's statue of David.
Lucca is often whispered of as a secret gem; an alternative to the high-season of Florence. A town still encircled by its wall, it is full of pastry shops, restaurants, bicycles and features a spectacular Duomo and Tower.
Pistoia is a little-known delight but tends to get missed out by travellers. All the ingredients of an old Tuscan city are there - old walls, striped churches, frescoes, medieval watchtowers, arcaded piazzas. Pistoia has the best local market (Wednesday and Saturday).
The sandy beach of Viareggio falls gently into the sea, ideal for children, is spacious, clean. Alongside runs the promenade with boutiques, shops, cafés, discos, cinemas, art-galleries and much more for your entertainment.
Pinnochio Park (Collodi)..... the Story of Pinocchio featuring puppet-making workshops, puppet and marionette shows and minstrels.
San Gimignano (a fabulous day trip driving through the Tuscan landscape; San Gimignano is very touristy but not oppressive, its lovely picturesque town with plenty of restaurants and shops)
Siena (this is a day trip on its own, about an hour’s drive using the autostrada). The well-conserved medieval streets and piazzas are home to the annual festival of the Palio, a horserace which takes place in Siena's main square, the Campo.
The Chianti Trail .....take the autostrada from Montecatini towards Florence and turn off at the Siena turning. Follow this autostrada along for several miles until you see a turn off for Greve in Chianti. At this point you are in the main Chianti region of Tuscany. The trail meanders down from the South of Florence to just North of Siena taking in the picturesque villages of Greve, Panzano, Radda, Gaiole and Castellina
