Once upon a time the château was the sensibly fortified hideaway for the reviled collector of the salt tax, who could retreat to safety behind his moat and peer nervously through the arrow slits in his round tower. However the château underwent a civilizing transformation in the 17th and 18th centuries, which, together with the present owner’s vision, have turned it into the relaxing, cheerful complex of buildings that greets the weary visitor today.Less than an hour from Paris by TGV, this is a château de luxe where you will be fabulously wined, dined and pampered by the resident staff, all included in the price. If self-catering is anathema, this is your perfect choice.

There are charming remnants of the old – oak parquet floors, working marble fireplaces, antique furniture generously scattered throughout - blended with the convenient appurtenances of life today.

Further details
Local caterers can be hired at a cost of roughly €100 per person to provide special occasion meals, and picnic can be provided by the château staff for €25 per person including wine.
There is provision for guest’s laundry to be washed, priced by the garment. Bedlinen is changed every third day and towels daily. The entire château, including bedrooms, is cleaned daily.
The Loire Valley / Loir-et-Cher region
The Loire Valley (French: Vallée de la Loire) is known as the Garden of France. It is also unique for its historic towns such as Amboise, Angers, Blois, Chinon, Nantes, Orléans, Saumur, and Tours, but in particular for its world-famous castles built by French Kings:

On December 2, 2000, UNESCO added the main part of the Loire River valley to its list of World Heritage Sites saying that the Loire Valley is: "an exceptional cultural landscape, of great beauty, comprised of historic cities and villages, great architectural monuments - the Châteaux and lands that have been cultivated and shaped by centuries of communication between local populations and their physical environment, in particular the Loire itself."
The Monteaux area
The château is ideally placed for an exploration of the glories of the Loire, from castles and culture to gourmet wining and dining. There are food markets with excellent local produce, supermarkets and antique shops. The energetic guest may favour cycling, golf, horse riding, ballooning or fishing.
