The Tuscany / Arezzo Province region
Tuscany is an area in Central Italy. Tuscany has a unique culinary tradition and is very well known for its wines-more famously Chianti! Tuscany is also known for its Artists and great paintings and sculptures, not to mention the Architectural masterpieces.
There are many reasons to visit Tuscany form the beautiful countryside, fine wine and cuisine, mountain paths for walking and cycling, the fine art and to learn the language!
Tuscany is a great destination for shopping in Italy. The larger cities for shopping are Siena and Florence with boutiques and brand name shops. The villages often focus on the weekly markets with local craftsmen who host workshops.
The Monte San Savino area
At just 5km is the A1 motorway which will take you to Florence and Rome, and the dual carriageway for Perugia Siena, Lake Trasimeno, Assisi and many other interesting places making Villa La Giogo an important landmark and base for visiting the most important centres in Tuscany and the nearby Umbria. In the vicinity you will discovery many smaller hamlets, which are by no means less fascinating.

Our stay at Villa la Gioga was fantastic. The villa is at the top of a valley, surrounded by acres of woodland and vineyards. From the swimming pool are beautiful views of the woods, valley, and the rooftops of Monte san Savino. It is in a really peaceful, quiet spot, yet very close to town, and only a half hour drive away from Arezzo.
Inside the villa are stone floors and beautiful old wood panelling. There is a dining table in the kitchen, and also a large dining room with a small bar. We stayed at Villa la Gioga at the start of July. Despite the very hot temperature 32 degrees centigrade some days, the villa stayed nice and cool.
We used the barbeque most nights and sat outside listening to the wildlife, watching the fireflies, and drinking Chianti! It was very idyllic!
By the villa gates, we found a path through the woods where it takes about ten minutes to walk to Monte san Savino.
The final part of the gravel drive was steep and a little tricky in our hire car. If you didn't want to drive right down to the front door, there is a flatter area (still within the the gates of the villa) where you can park your car, still only about 20 metres from the villa.
There is everything you need in Monte san Savino, great restaurants, small café/bars, an internet café. The people in Tourist Information were really helpful and told us all the local places for horseriding, mountain biking, road bikes etc.
The keyholders who met us on arrival were very informative and friendly. As we arrived too late on Saturday to buy groceries, they told us where was open on Sunday and also recommended the weekly market in Monte san Savino, and the famous Arezzo antiques market which happened to be on while we were there.
We found and booked the villa online through Italian View Ltd. They were very helpful in finding us a villa that matched our holiday requirements, and we would definitely rent a villa from them again.
Villa la Gioga is in a great position for visiting Arezzo, Cortona and Siena. We only wished we were there for more than one week, as it was hard to tear ourselves away from the pool!
