The Marche / Abruzzo / Marche region
Le Marche is an all year round place. Swimming in the warm summer weather and skiing in Sassesetto in winter. Sun, sea and blue flag beaches. Mountains, lakes and wood cladded slopes, farmland, medieval towns and villages all to be found in Le Marche.
Visit Europe's largest limestone caves at Frasassi or visit the Lago di Fiastra where you can swim in the crystal clear waters. There are numerous local markets to visit as well as the wonderful piazzas of the towns of Ascoli Piceno, Macerata and Fermo. All within an easy drive away.
Le Marche has interesting seasons, late spring brings flowers and poppies. Hot summers where the sun draws you to the Adriatic beaches, where the water is iddilic to swim in. Late summer the sun flowers stand at attention. In autumn the grapes are ready for picking and the winter brings the snow on the mountains and hills.
Monte San Martino area
Monte san Martino is a pretty well kept medieval hill top village, in a stunning location, 600m above sea level, high over the Val Tenna. In the village you will find a post office, bank, newsagents, mini market, pharmacy and a pane forno (bread oven). There are 2 bars, a highly recommended family restaurant "Dei Priori" on the main Piazza, just a few minutes walk from the house. Le Querce is another great restaurant, just outside the village, where the antipasti is not to be missed. The main vilage church houses famous paintings of great importance. The paintings are by Vittore and Carlo Crivelli. The is a large closed order of the Benedictine nuns of Santa Caterina, who are very rarely seen, but a pleasure to meet if you do. Some of our favourite places are the grand old spa town of Sarnano, with cobbled streets and a lovely Piazza. An antiques featival is held here each May. A little further afield is Ascoli Piceno, with it's delightful cathederal and Piazza di Popolo, with the famous Cafe Meletti not to be missed. You can also visit Assisi in under 2 hours drive. Well worth a visit with amazing scenery and a wonderful Basilica. The nearest beach is Porto San Giorgio. A long sandy "Blue Flag" beach with clear blue sea, great for children. If shopping is your forte, there many designer outlets, such as Tod's Prada and Dockers. Le Marche is the shoe capital of Italy.
Details of the areas actvities, festivals, markets and restaurants ect. are available at the house.
