Welcome to Cottage Suora ( Nun's Cottage ) .Situated on a quiet cobbled street, minutes from the central piazza, offering cosy but spacious accommodation. A well presented cottage close to shops selling local produce including a small supermarket, "pane forno"( bread shop) chemist, hairdresser, post office, bank, two bars and two highly recommended restaurants. The town is totally unspoilt and very beautiful,an idyllic retreat at any time of the year. The atmosphere in the town is very friendly and you will be made most welcome.
The stunning views of the Sibillini Mountains, hilltop towns and the rolling countryside can be seen from the living room balcony and bedroom. Within an hour's drive are the sandy beaches and clear warm waters of the Adriatic. In winter the snowy white mountains are breathtaking with skiing at Sassotetto a few miles from Sarnano. This is a truly delightful area, a place to unwind and take in the stunning scenery. There are numerous local markets in the area, pretty coves along the Conero Peninsular, not forgetting the delightful food and wines of the Marche region.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Marche region
Totally unspoilt by tourism this area is the "Real Italy ". The dramatic and stunning Sibillini Mountains are a delight to visit all year round. In Spring and Autumn the wildflowers and wildlife are in abundance, in Summer the cooling breeze is welcome and in winter there is skiing. This area is a walkers' paradise as well as a very popular area for artists and photographers keen to capture that perfect picture.
There are local markets nearly every day of the week in the surrounding towns and villages with fantastic fresh local produce, a favourite is Sarnano market on a Thursday morning. The area is well served by family run restaurants,in particular " Le Querce" situated just outside the town and the "Priori" on the main piazza, just a few minutes walk from the cottage ,where Prince Charles has enjoyed lunch and seen the local art work. The Conero Peninsular,an area of outstanding natural beauty offers stretches of beautiful beaches and coves. The Conero Golf Club near Sirolo offers an 18 hole championship course and a 9 hole course. For keen cyclists there are graded cycle rides, and also guided walks amongst the most scenic forestry and coastal paths.A little nearer at Amandola is a very good bicycle hire centre details of which can be found in the cottage .If you fancy a swim near the mountains then Lake Fiastra with lovely clear waters is perfect for a day out and a picnic.
Monte San Martino / Penna San Giovanni area
We thought we would mention some of our favourite places that you may enjoy too. Sarnano is a lovely town with windy streets and a lovely piazza, you can pamper yourself at the delightful Spa or visit the Antiques Festival held here each May. Amandola is a favourite stop for coffee at Cafe Belli especially on a Sunday morning where you can stop and people watch! Daily coaches run from Amandola to Rome. The famous Open Air Opera Festival is held at Macerata during July and August. Ascoli Piceno a little further afield has a delightful cathedral and the Piazza de Popolo is a gem especially tea at Cafe Meletti with its art nouveau interior. La Quintana (medieval pageant ) is held in Ascoli Piceno the first Sunday in August and is spectacular. Assisi is under a two hour drive through amazing scenery and is well worth a visit.
Monte san Martino a tidy well kept town has two main churches with excellent frescos and paintings by Carlo Vittore Crivelli the former being discovered only last year during renovations. At the end of the cottage street is the large closed order of Benedictine nuns of Santa Caterina who are very rarely seen however we did have the pleasure of meeting one of them on her way to the cemetery and offered her a lift !
How to get there
Monte San Martino is well served by four airports, Ancona, Pescara, Bologna(Forli) and Rimini. Ancona airport is the closest at 1hr 20 minutes driving time, Pescara is just over 2 hours, Rimini 2hrs 15minutes Bologna 2hrs 45 minutes
