Apartment Don Henrique is located in the lively town of Monte Gordo in a wonderful position along the sea front and directly opposite the beach. Everything is within easy walking distance with a huge choice of restaurants, bars and shops right on the doorstep. The apartment is on the first floor and from the lounge balcony there are wonderful views of the beach, ocean and promenade stretching as far as the eye can see. The accommodation comprises 1 twin bedroom and 2 sofa beds for up to 4 guests, along with 1 bathroom, kitchenette and large lounge. Monte Gordo is generally quite lively and cosmopolitan, with a friendly, family atmosphere and Apartment Don Henrique is perfectly placed to enjoy every aspect!

The main hallway leads to a bathroom with bath and overhead shower. The main living area comprises 2 sofas which also convert to 1 person sofa beds, TV/DVD, a dining table for 4 people and a kichenette. Equipped with 2 ring hob and oven, fridge/freezer, microwave and toaster, the catering facilities are more than adequate for cooking light meals and snacks. The bedroom is spacious with good wardrobe space and a small balcony suitable for aring clothes. The wonderful aspect of this apartment is the lounge balcony with table and chairs overlooking the promendade where guests can enjoy breakfast or an early evening drink with views of the beach and sea.

The Algarve region

With its stunning coastline, excellent golf courses and pleasant year round climate, the Algarve's 200 kilometre stretch of southern shoreline has become one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations. Bordered on two sides by the Atlantic Ocean, the Algarve is divided from the rest of Portugal by a series of low lying mountains. In the east, the Guadiana River forms a scenic border with neighbouring Spain.

There is a clear definition between the Western Algarve and the East. Whilst the West shows more development towards tourism, the Eastern Algarve and its tidal marshlands still have a tranquil beauty, and the small resorts along the coast have retained much of their character, looking today as they must have looked long ago. Here, tourism blends in perfectly with local activities creating a relaxed way of life. There is a tinge of excitement and even romance about the ferry boat trips to the beach islands, where visitors are rewarded with superb, less crowded bathing beaches and warm waters.

The sea water temperature is around 14c in January and reaches a high 22c in August. A pleasant sea breeze refreshes the temperatures of the region, which are around 15c in January and up to 28c or more in July and August. The Algarve can also count on around 3.000 hours of Sun during the year which makes it a favourite destination for those who fancy such a sunny climate. The autumn and winter months are mild, but you will need a jacket in the evening and some kind of heating in your apartment or hotel room. January is the coolest month of the year.

Monte Gordo

Monte Gordo is considered to be one of the most cosmopolitan of the Eastern Algarve resorts. During the day, there is a laid back, relaxed atmosphere where visitors can sit and enjoy a beer at one of the seafront bars or take a stroll and do some leisurely shopping. For sun worshipers, the expansive white beaches have sun beds for hire and provide great walking territory into the neighboring resorts! In the evening, visitors can choose from a wide selection of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes including typical Portuguese, Dutch, Italian, Chinese and Indian cuisine. In the balmy summer evenings, the promenade is perfect for a stroll to browse the assorted market stalls selling local crafts and items. Or the famous casino offers an evening of entertainment with spectacular floor shows as well as gambling and dining. Overall, the resort is generally very family oriented. Car hire is not essential; good bus and rail networks can be used to explore the surrounding areas.

BEACHES

The beach of Monte Gordo is the sun worshippers paradise with white expansive sands and good water for swimming. Located directly in front of the apartments, the beach can be reached in less than 2 minutes! There are a number of good quality restaurants and bars as well as sun beds and shades for hire. For those who enjoy walking, the neighbouring resorts along the coastline can also be reached. With car hire, the other local beaches are a must to be explored. Heading back Westwards, Praia Verde is highly recommended with a hill top restaurant overlooking the bay - and just next door, Cabeco Beach is largely unspoilt and very peaceful offering uninterrupted sands as far as the eye can see.

THE BEAUTIFUL TOWN OF TAVIRA

When staying in this accommodation a visit to the beautiful town of Tavira is essential! You will not fail to be enthralled by its unspoilt charm, character and tranquility. As you wander along the cobbled streets, you'll see an abundance of history dating as far back as 2000BC. A Roman bridge links the 2 parts of the town across the River Gilao, its sides decorated with traditional old bars and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy a peaceful drink or meal. The many churches (37 in total!), the town castle and the typical fisherman's harbour leading to the River Formosa Natural Park are all places to visit, along with the wonderful daily market selling fresh home grown produce. Tavira Island and its wonderful beach is accessible by ferry boat from the town and offers excellent facilities with a wonderful holiday atmosphere.

OTHER THINGS TO SEE AND DO

…….by travelling a little further afield there are a good range of things to do to suit all tastes. For nature lovers there are forest walks, cruises along the River Guadiana or natures trails along the Ria Formosa Reserve where bird watching is in abundance! By travelling towards the West there are some excellent shopping centres in Faro and Ghia as well as the famous Water Parks and Zoo Marine (wonderful for children), all easily reached by car (around 45 minutes) or by day trip coach. From this property it is easy to take a day trip to Spain. The lovely border town of Ayamonte is not far by car, and once there you can sample the delights of another country, including wine, tapas and excellent shopping. Or you can travel by car, local bus or train to Vila Real de Santo Antonio and from there take the 15 minute ferry crossing to Ayamonte. For the more adventurous the vibrant city of Seville is approx 170km away. For budding historians the Castle at Castro Marim is worth a look.

GOLF

This is perfect accommodation for golfers wishing to sample the excellent courses situated in the Eastern Algarve. Within a 20km radius there are 7 courses to choose from. Benamor and the 2 Quintas (Ria and Cima) are the most popular and can be reached within several minutes. The prestigious new course of Monte Rei designed by Jack Nicklaus now has its first 18 holes open and is continuing in its development to the second phase offering the height of golfing luxury - although a costly experience, this is a real treat for golfing fanatics wishing to experience a little high life! Travelling only 10kms further on towards Spain, the challenging course of Castro Marim, along with its famous country club comes highly recommended and just across the border are the Costa Esuri and Quinta do Vale courses now growing in popularity. We can organise a full golfing package with 1 price per head with play at a selection of these courses, car hire and rental of this property. (Flights not included)
