Southern Italy region
If you have never been to Basilicata, and even the Italians haven't you will find Italy's best kept secret. Beautifully unspoilt, empty roads you will have an amazing experience, simply because its so different from any where else, its a bit like stepping back in time. More sheep and goats than cars. The house is situated within the National Park of Pollino, which is Oak filled. The local kitchen is basically the same as all the south of Italy, poor or simple, therefore loads of delicious pasta and vedura, easily accessible locally produced food, wines and oils, organic in all but name and you really can taste the difference.
It is trully a place to get away from it all and charge the batteries, the house itself in a secure plot of an array of trees including fruit and nuts. Shubs and herbs.
All this with in easy reach of good big sandy beaches and the beautifull Ionean Sea. You are completly spoilt for choice for good restaurants and pizzeries near by and the most expensive around Euro 20 per head but more like 10 to 12 for a to die for Pizza with local wine, etc. he
Melfi, Matera, Metaponto just to mention a few. Matera is the capital city of this part of the region and where Mel Gibson filmed "The Passion of Christ" it has since become an UNESCO world heritage site for very good reasons.
Melfi is dominated by Norman castle with a second to none exhibition of ancient relics.
