PLEASE NOTE: The beds can be made up as single or double beds to suit guests’ needs.
The Manoir has been recently internally modernised to provide well-equipped and comfortable accommodation, whilst retaining the traditional features of a French country manor. Most rooms have beams and antique tiled floors, and tall windows allow plenty of light into the house. Rooms are spacious, generously furnished and are ideal for entertaining both large and intimate parties. The Manoir is centrally heated throughout, while the dining room, which easily seats 12, has a wide open stone fireplace for winter or cooler autumn evenings. On arrival, you enter the Hall with its imposing yet friendly stone staircase. Manoir Les Gaillardoux is generously equipped to welcome 12 guests in comfort, both indoors and outdoors.
Manoir Les Gaillardoux's Master bedroom suite comprises a large bedroom with double bed, boudoir and dressing room. The en-suite bathroom has a double wash basin, large shower and jacuzzi, and the separate en-suite WC has a further washbasin. The tall windows give views to the east, south and north.
The further five bedrooms each have an en-suite shower room (WC, double wash basin, shower) with plenty of storage space for personal toiletry. We supply a hair-dryer in each bedroom suite. All en-suite bathrooms/shower rooms have windows and good ventilation, together with an electric towel rail for our guests' convenience. The beds can be made up as single or double beds to suit guests’ needs. A cot is available on request.
The two living rooms, the Grand salon (drawing room) and the Petit salon, are spacious and bright, and there is comfortable seating for at least twelve guests in the drawing room. In spite of this, the drawing room provides the ideal atmosphere for a cosy winter get-together or a smaller intimate party. Further living space is provided by the billiard room, where there is a separate TV and DVD player for the children.
The dining room has a long refectory-style walnut table seating 12, enabling the whole group to eat together all year round. The dining room opens onto the south-facing terrace for outside summer meals and barbecues under the vast open skies. On cooler evenings, a dinner by the open fire under the beams of the dining room creates a festive end to a happy day.
The fully equipped Gourmet kitchen includes two dishwashers, an American fridge freezer/ice dispenser, two ovens, an electric hob with four large induction rings, two gas rings, an electric deep fryer, microwave, electric toaster, kettle, coffee maker, blender/slicer and semi professional cooking utensils ... and manuals to help with initial use. There is an ample supply of crockery and glassware. The laundry room has two Miele washing machines and a tumble dryer. The separate shower room with washbasin and separate WC/cloakroom on the ground floor is easily accessible from the swimming pool and garden.
The Manoir offers entertainment for all the family: LCD wide screen satellite TV with DVD player, quality music centre, billiard room with children’s TV and further DVD. For contact with home, there is ASDL / wireless broadband internet access (in our experience, mobile phones and blackberries work perfectly on the property), and combined fax/answering machine/copier/telephone.
Further details outdoors:
Stone-built Manoir Les Gaillardoux sits in its own 1.25 hectare (3 acre) park and orchard, offering space and privacy and featuring fine examples of local architecture, including a large coach house, barn and round 'pigeonnier'. The spacious terrace is equipped for outdoor eating in comfort, and boasts an Australian “outdoor kitchen” barbecue and views of the park and beyond - perfect for a candlelit dinner under the stars. The columned coach house provides parking for up to 5 cars, further parking is available in the grounds with easy unloading access for luggage/shopping.
The large, partly-walled heated swimming pool faces south and, because of this, can be enjoyed from late spring to October. Suitable for children, with steps and a gentle slope leading to diving depth, the pool has a sound ringing security alarm but is not fenced. The salt water pool has 12 loungers with cushions and some sunshades for our guests' comfort, all arranged on a stone paved terrace. The garden offers areas of shade and sunshine for play or relaxation, including boules and ample garden and pool furniture.

A refundable deposit against breakages is also payable: minimum 1,000 euros.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Lot region
The scenic Causses du Quercy Blanc are an elevated limestone plateau with extended views over a rolling hilly and wooded landscape. The area enjoys a sunny, dry climate with mild spring and autumn weather yet relief from extreme summer heat, making it possible to live outdoors for a large part of the year.
The region around Manoir Les Gaillardoux is a lively centre of activities based around its rivers, pre-historic caves, gastronomy, vineyards, villages and history.
The Montdoumerc area
The Quercy region is sparsely populated and is well-known for its picturesque medieval villages, many of which have shops, cafés, restaurants and traditional street markets. Food lovers will find much to delight them in the local delicacies, such as the rare black truffle, which can be enjoyed at a number of restaurants for all occasions within easy reach of the Manoir.
The area is also known for the “black wines” of Cahors. Most of the local chateaux and vineyards welcome visitors for guided tours and wine tasting.
The area boasts a rich architectural heritage and a wide range of cultural activities: intact spectacular cliff-top fortresses and historical remains; Pont Valentré, the magnificent medieval bridge at Cahors; the 11th century cathedral at Cahors; the stunning 15 Century Chateau de Cieurac near Lalbenque; and the medieval village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie on its rocky promontory dominating the Lot valley to name but a few, all of which are less than a half hour drive from the Manoir. The limestone geology throughout Périgord and Quercy has resulted in series of caves with stunning pre-historical cave paintings which are open to the public.
With spectacular sculptured rocky landscapes, the wide river valley of the Lot and smaller rivers like the shallow Célé attract water sports lovers for boat hire, fishing, canoeing, swimming and picnicking. The area also provides opportunities for cycling, walking, caving and golf, as well as adrenaline-raising activities such as sightseeing flights, parachuting and gliding at the nearby Aerodrome de Lalbenque.
Historic Carcassonne, the ski slopes of the Pyrénées in winter, the Mediterranean sea and the Spanish border are within reach for day trips.

The accommodation was superb and the Manoir furnished to a very high standard, with all the bedrooms having en suite facilities. A perfect location for several people who want to enjoy a holiday together but, at the same time maintain their own space. The Manoir is enormous with many places to relax, read or just be on your own for a while. Situated in a perfect location surrounded by beautiful countryside, with Cahors only a short drive away. Plenty of great restaurants and wine tasting, if you desire. We are mostly at the Manoir as the excellent cooking facilities there made the catering so easy and so relaxing. We hope to return there again soon. Response: Thank you for your lovely comments. We are delighted you enjoyed our Manoir, and look forward to welcoming you again soon. This is typical of the reviews we get for Manoir Les Gaillardoux. Our guests love the peaceful yet stunning countryside of the Lot (Midi-Pyrenees), the atmosphere of the local villages and the delicious food of the nearby restaurants. Combined with the style and 5 star comfort of our Manoir, with its heated swimming pool and sunny terrace with wide open views, most say that it is a luxury holiday that is hard to beat. |
Guestbook for Manoir Les Gaillardoux
“What a fantastic holiday we had at Manoir Les Gaillardoux in June 2011. The accommodation was superb and the Manoir furnished to a very high standard, with all bedrooms having en suite bathrooms. We ate mostly at the Manoir as the excellent cooking facilities there made the catering so easy and so relaxing. We hope to return there again soon.” Mr & Mrs C, Bucks, UK (June 2011)
“We spent a wonderful week at Manoir Les Gaillardoux in June this year. The house is lovely, spacious with gorgeous views set in stunning surroundings with easy access to beautiful little towns and hilltop villages. A perfect place to relax and unwind.” Mr & Mrs D, Surrey, UK (June 2011)
In July 2011, our group of family and friends spent two very happy weeks at this lovely house in a beautiful, unspoiled part of France. All rooms are large, well furnished and equipped, including the kitchen. Most importantly, the beds are comfortable. Our party of 8 had more than enough room never to feel crowded. The spacious patio has two big tables, huge umbrellas, and a first class gas barbeque. At the front there is a large swimming pool. The Manoir, ten minutes south of beautiful Cahors, is situated in bucolic splendour on a large property. Scores of wine estates are nearby, many offering tastings and restaurants. Many great sights and weekly markets are within an easy drive. We all had a great time.” Jeff Green, lawyer, Canada (July 2011)
“You have made a marvellous job of refurbishing the Manoir - the very high quality of the decor, the abundant bathroom facilities, the high tech kitchen and the deck at the rear of the property were all things that appealed to our party, and we had a great time. Thanks for all that you and your very friendly and helpful team did to make our stay so pleasant.” David N (Summer 2010)
“Thank you for the most memorable stay at Manoir Les Gaillardoux, everyone had just a perfect time. We thoroughly enjoyed the house, its facilities and had some fabulous day trips out and about.” Rachel D (Summer 2010)
“We had such a lovely holiday at the villa. It worked ideally for two families as there was space for us all to be together and also for one or two of us to hide away and get some peace. Having the shopping sorted was a marvel. The house is beautifully decorated and restored and something to be proud of. We really enjoyed it, thank you! We are even talking about a return visit next August.” Sarah B (Summer 2010)
“The Manoir provided an extremely high standard of accommodation, and comfortably hosted our two families with five children. There were numerous beautiful and original features, but the house did not compromise on comfort and modern conveniences. A very well equipped kitchen and immaculate bathrooms added five star touches to a historic building. We engaged the services of a local chef who prepared and served superb meals. The swimming pool was maintained to a perfect temperature, appealing to adults and children alike. We had a most relaxing holiday and thoroughly recommend the Manoir to anybody seeking a high quality rental.” The Brunwin family, Jersey (Summer 2009)
"We have rented many houses over the years, and this is really one of the best we have stayed at. Le Manoir is beautifully located, extremely spacious, very comfortable and well equipped, making for a 5 star break in some lovely unspoiled countryside." James T., London. Partner in an American Law firm (Summer 2008 – back in 2009)
“May we compliment you on the fabulous re-building and tasteful refurbishment of the manoir. As seasoned 'travellers', Les Gaillardoux sits with the best of the properties we have had the privilege to spend time in. We loved the region and travelled around most days. The restaurants, local, and far and wide were also excellent. The housekeeper was helpful and available. The pool was greatly enjoyed by the group.” Richard H. Partner in Advertising consultancy (June 2007)
