A tranquil, village-based B&B not far from the Med, the Pyrénées, the Spanish border and Perpignan, the capital of the Pyrénées Orientales. Our Mas enjoys superb views of the snow-capped Canigou and the sea - plus the village of Montauriol below. Our Bed & Breakfast visitors book is full of glowing recommendations - for the warm welcome from Martin & Martine, your hosts; the views from the garden and the house; the rooms; the pool and jacuzzi; the breakfasts and the 'table d'hôte', if you request it - and the peace and quiet of our village.

The 3 bedrooms for adults each opens onto the garden - 3 steps to the pool. Two bedrooms are mainly reserved for children (but can also accomodate adults). The adult double rooms each has a TV and all are air-conditioned, have tea/coffee facilities. Free wifi is available in all rooms and elsewhere - take a look at the website - - to see more details and photos.

Breakfast for all our guests is usually served on one of the (covered) terraces - but rarely will you need to take shelter from inclement weather in this part of the world. A choice of homemade bread and preserves, croissants, and the usual components of a copious 'continental-style' breakfast is complimented by tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fruit juice.......

Days - especially with young children - can be filled with 'pool activity', trampoline etc. Also we have 3 cats and 3 tortoises - always a hit with our younger visitors. For adults we can lend mountain bikes - and we even have some fitness equipment you can use.. Lunch 'chez nous' can be your own-cooked barbecue in our barbecue area (commerce for all your needs is 15 minutes away by car). Dinner can be provided by prior arrangement. If you and the children get tired of the pool, you can visit an ever-expanding list of local leisure or more active amenities and the numerous local historical and other 'cultural' sites - fully described in our brochures, or by chatting with us. Of course, the sea, with all it has to offer (beach, rocky coves .....), is nearby, for a change of scenary - plus lots of restaurants along the coast.

But we have a restaurant 5 minutes from our door - and a vigneron selling local wines and aperatifs..

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

What can we say? Everyone dreams of spending a holiday in the South of France - with its wall-to-wall sunshine, the Mediterranean, the Pyrenees for walking, hiking, cycling, camping, its rich history spanning many centuries - the oldest human remains (450,000 years) are in the museum at Tautavel, near the equally impressive Cathar castles.

The Pyrenees Orientales is the most South Westerly departement of France - just above Catalonia in Northern Spain. It, together with the department of Aude, has many vestiges of earlier religious conflicts and a rich cultural heritage - churches and chapels; castles and forts; medieval villages; museums explaining the rich history and much, much more. And of course, the sea with all the activities the seaside has to offer - including the warm Mediterranean for swimming, boating, windsurfing, diving - and the beaches and rocky coves for the children.

France celebrates Bastille Day on 14th July and Assumption on 15th August with fireworks all along the coast - but there are 'spectacles' all through the summer, inland as well, with many linked to the PO's Catalan roots.

Around our village of Montauriol there are hiking trails, off-road cycling routes for the energetic and many villages, some seriously old - truly picturesque, whether to be investigated by car, cycle or on foot. We can propose hikes, cycle routes (we have 2 bikes available for our guests), or car discovery tours. These can include 'wine routes' to sample the rich variety of red, rosé and white wines and the famous fortified aperatif wines - Banyuls and Maury (and of course, 'muscat de Rivesaltes').

After a hard day's sightseeing, cycling or hiking, what could be better than a soak in the 8-place jacuzzi, or a dip in the pool, before a meal at our mas (with reservation), the local restaurants, or the wide choice of eating places on the coast - or in Perpignan.

For the children, there are animal parks, 'the valley of tortoises', aquaparks and of course, the beaches and the Med.

In fact, if we count the number of leaflets in our 'activity album' for the PO area, we reach well over 100. For sure you need more than a week to discover even a few of these gems - from neolithic menuirs and dolmens to modern-day water parks and chic restaurants. We can send attachments that describe our area better than a few words possibly can!! Please ask, us, after booking.
