About this location
The Extremadura region
The finca is in the middle of 3 world heritage towns, Trujillo, Merida and Caceres, all 40kms. Also the spectacular monastries of Guadalupe and Yuste are nearby. Throughout the year the Extremadura has some of the most interesting fiestas in Spain due to its rich heritage of Roman,Visigothic, Moorish occupation. Extremadura was the birthplace of nearly all the great conquistadors of the 16th century, you can visit the gorgeous palacios in Caceres and Trujillo built with Inca gold by Cortez and Pissaro. These towns are also great for shopping and nightlife, great bars and restaurants within the ancient walls of the historical centres. The food and wine of the Extremadura is of the best quality , grown in natural, unpolluted environment.
Situated in the stunning Sierra de Montanchez, Extremadura,a still little known province with wonderful unspoilt nature and some of Spain's most impressive historical towns. The sierra surrounding the finca is still living at a slower pace, the olive groves and vineyards are tended carefully even though access is only by donkey along ancient moorish pathways that afford wonderful routes by horse, donkey or foot. Montanchez is famous for the air dried jamon, Pitarra wine and small sweet figs, also wild asparagus is abundant all over the sierra. A lively town with a weekly market and a plaza with many tapas bars and restaurants. Only a 5 min. drive from the finca or a delightful 40 min walk throught the sierra.

"A very special place to stay in gorgeous scenery, great walking and bird watching"
We all loved Finca al-manzil, even better than the photos. Not an average holiday house, full of personality, comfortable and felt like home with lots of books and dvds for entertainment. The pool is wonderful with great views and a little terrace above for just 2 people. We loved the Saturday market in Montanchez and exploring the nearby historical towns. A super holiday, perfect mix of relaxing at the peaceful environment of the finca and some more active walking and exploring. We shall certainly return.
