The Marche / Abruzzo / Marche region

Le Marche is one of Italy's best kept secrets. With wonderful blue flag beaches on the Adriatic coast, stunning rolling typical Italian countryside and the dramatic backdrop of the Apenine mountains the region has lots to offer families with children and couples alike. You'll have one little but pleasant problem and that's fitting in everything that you want to do - there is just so much to do and see here. Of course if you want to kick back and relax getting into the real Italian way of life you won't be disappointed.

Explore the largest limestone caves at Frasassi, visit the ancient hill top towns in the area - each with its own distinct personality, sizzle on the beach, explore the mountainous Sibillini National Park, go for a wine tasting session, visit Ascoli Piceno the provinical capital which is thought to be older than rome or visit some of the many festivals that take place over the summer months all of which focus on food in one way or another and many of which have exciting firework displays as the climax of each festival.

Montalto delle Marche area

Montalto delle Marche has a popuation of 2700. With this number of inhabitants you would think that it was a village but it is in fact a city. In the 15th century, Pope Sisto V who came from Montalto decided to build a cathedral in the town to repay the locals and with a Papal decree eleveated the status of the village to that of a city so it's likely to be one of the smallest cities that you will ever visit.

The "city" is very well served with many different types of of shops, bars and restaurants and on a Wednesday morning there is a local market selling all sorts of fresh Italian produce. Very few people in the town speak English but this is half the fun of being here and we'll supply you with a phrase book on arrival, so one less thing to pack!
