About the home

The Villa La Scuola Vecchia, in the hamlet of Vergelle in Tuscany, is part of an old school building that was fully renovated in 2008 and is a large 3 bedroom property, which provides comfortable accommodation for up to 8 people.

It is a beautiful bright and spacious house spread over three floors and includes a private outdoor garden and patio area for soaking up the sun or enjoying a BBQ. Outside the house you will find a large swimming pool set into Tuscan hillside. The pool is shared with the other apartments and includes a changing area.

Across the cobbled road from the house is the lovely trattoria where you can find a delicious meal for lunch or dinner, or grab a morning coffee and pastry while taking in the spectacular views of the surrounding hills.

The first floor comprises a large lounge room with a lovely stone fire place. This room adjoins a spacious and fully functioning brand new kitchen with a large dining room table seating 8. A small bathroom is conveniently located on the first floor. The kitchen opens out to the private patio with a built in brick BBQ. The two main double bedrooms, with king size beds, are located on the second floor, one with a balcony overlooking the private garden, the second with double doors opening for views over the Tuscan hills. A large shared bathroom offers a power shower, toilet, bidet and sink.

Moving up to the third floor you will find a spacious open plan family room comprising one king size bed and two singles. This room leads on to the third bathroom which boasts a large Travetino bath with shower.

Further details outdoors:
The private garden is perfect for soaking up the sun or seating in the evening for BBQs. The villa is also part of a protected area and boasts lots of rolling hills for walking.

Conditions

The booking process is simple and we require a 30% deposit with the balance due 10 days before the holiday. All guests will receive a welcome pack stocked with delicious local produce. Our meet and greet agent is bi-lingual and has a wealth of local Tuscan knowledge.

The Tuscany / Siena Province region

Vergelle is situated in the heart of the Val D’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the province of San Giovanni D’Asso. The Val D’Orcia offers unparalleled views of characteristic Tuscan landscapes with rolling hills, ravines, winding river beds and acres of olives groves and vineyards.

Vergelle is 4 kms from Torrenieri which has a number of local stores – supermarket, various bars and restaurants, a bank and pharmacy amongst others. Torrenieri is also connected by a colloquial train service that connects with Siena and also allows you to amble around various villages on the way – the service runs from Spring to Autumn.

The Montalcino / Val d'Orcia area

The hamlet of Vergelle has seen extensive renovation during 2007 & 2008 and now consists of three large connected townhouses (converted from an Old School building) and a small number of apartments. The hamlet also boasts a lovely local restaurant that provides excellent food and good service all at a very reasonable price.

The villa is well situated for site seeing, within easy driving distance to the famous historic medieval walled city Siena (40kms) and very close to dozens of other small and beautiful towns including the famous wine producing towns of Montalcino (Brunello) and Montepulciano (Vino Nobile), and the very pretty and historical towns of Pienza (21kms) and San Quirico D’Orcia (13kms).

By air
The villa is accessible from Pisa airport (BA, Easyjet, Ryanair) and is (2.5 hour drive – 240kms), Rome (BA, Easyjet, Ryanair) and is 210kms (2.5 hour drive) or there is an infrequent service from Perugia (Ryanair) which is just 93 kms or just over 1 hours drive.

“Great place, good location to explore Tuscany” We had a great holiday, dividing our time between relaxing by the pool we had to ourselves and exploring the delightful foods & wines Tuscany have on offer. Although we used the BBQ a few times, the little restaurant nearby was great value for money for those evenings/lunches we were too lazy to prepare anything ourselves. Not too far from the airport either and well placed for the various interesting towns.

“Fantastic house and idyllic location” My friends and I rented Scoula Vecchia in August 2012. It is tucked away in the beautiful little hamlet of Vergelle which has a tasty little restaurant at its heart.. We were fortunate in that we were the only ones staying in the group of houses that share the pool so we were lucky enough to have the luxury of the pool to ourselves. It is a perfect place for a chilled and relaxing holiday. Whilst too remote to be able to travel without a car, with a hire car it is perfectly located for day trips to Siena, Montepulciano etc. Would definitely return. Only negative comment would be that I do not think the pictures on the website do it justice - it was so much nicer than anticipated.

“Lovely, picturesque, perfect Tuscan getaway.” Stayed for a week with another family, 4 children aged between 5 and 9 years old. Everyone loved it! Clean, contemporary, renovated old school house. Great pool and gorgeous location. Plenty of room for everyone ( children happy to share large attic bedroom and bathroom, plenty of space). Fabulous location, close to local town with shops and close to beautiful places of interest including Montalcino, Pienza and countless others. Perfect place to use as a base to explore Tuscany.
