Villa Viviana C
About the home
Villa Viviana C is a charming apartment of 60 square meters (approximately
645 square feet) which sleeps four persons. It has a garden, a swimming pool and
a splendid view of the gentle Tuscan hills.
It is located at 3 km (approximately 1.9 miles) from the medieval hamlet of
Montaione, at 15 km (approximately 9 miles) from San Gimignano and halfway
between Florence, Siena and Pisa, which are all located at approximately 50 km
(31 miles).
Villa Viviana is an ancient stone building, of approximately 500 square meters
(5380 square feet), on two levels, restored with care and love, and it stands
inside a splendid park of 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres), where you will also find one
other building and a large swimming pool shared by the guests of the villas.
Villa Viviana is divided into three apartments, each of them with its own
reserved garden: Villa Viviana A, which is located on the first floor and sleeps
eight, Villa Viviana B, which is on the bottom floor and sleeps eight as well,
and lastly Villa Viviana C, which sleeps four on the bottom floor.
The houses and the surrounding park were, in ancient ages, a typical Tuscan
farmhouse, with a master villa and a smaller building to service the premises.
The buildings have been restored in a way that exalts the beauty of the ancient
stone walls and of the terracotta decorations, and lawns and flowers are grown
in the wide spaces that divide them. A wide lawn also surrounds the swimming
pool.
The whole is part of a splendid landscape, the kind of typical landscapes which,
together with the artistic treasures kept in the cities, has made Tuscany famous
all over the word: a horizon of gentle hills that intersect like the waves of a
green sea, bordered here and there by the dark green rows of slim cypresses and
marked by the ordered lines of the vineyards.
The air is clear and perfumed by flowers and by the Mediterranean scrub. All
around there is space, harmony, peace and tranquillity.
Nearby you will not notice any other building, even though you are a short
distance from centers of intense tourist activity.
This will be the pleasant landscape that will be in front of your eyes for the
length of your vacation. It will be nice to relax by the swimming pool
surrounded by so much beauty, maybe after an intense day spent sightseeing the
artistic treasures of the nearby cities.
To keep the continuity with the typical activities of the ancient farmhouse,
part of the land is still used to grow fruit trees and vegetables, and there is
a small pond where fish are grown.
All the produce of the land, varying with the season, will be at your disposal
free of charge, and you will be able to pick the fruit and the vegetable that
you need yourself, or even to go fishing in the pond at no charge.
Next to the swimming pool you will find beach umbrellas and deck chairs, shared
with the other guests.
Additionally, each villa has its own reserved external space, equipped with
garden furniture to relax “al fresco” with privacy.
The park is fenced and it has a parking lot. The entrance gate is automated. The
villas are equipped with central heating.
Villa Viviana C is on the ground floor of a nice stone building, which is
located at the top of a short hill. From the garden and from all the observation
points you will enjoy a wide view of the splendid Tuscan countryside, which here
takes its more characteristic and well-known form: gentle hills ploughed by rows
of vines and olive trees, embellished by lines of slender cypresses.
The walls of the villa have the natural, warm, color of the local building
materials, which go from the brick-red to the orange. It is splendidly framed by
a very well-maintained green lawn. Shrubs of the Mediterranean scrub, with their
delicate pink, yellow, azurine color, bloom at the edges of the lawn.
As a guest of the villa you will be able to enjoy a large reserved outdoor area,
equipped with a small table, chairs, deck chairs and beach umbrella.
You will enter the living room from the garden. In the living room there is a
beautiful fireplace carved in stone, in front of which there are two armchairs,
a satellite television, and a table with chairs. The two armchairs provide two
sleeping places.
In a corner of the living room there is a comfortable cooking area,
well-equipped, with a four-burner cooker, an oven, a refrigerator with freezer,
a dishwasher and other small appliances.
A short corridor leads to the bedroom, which has a double bed, and to the two
bathroom, which has a shower.
The interior of the villa is just as fascinating as the outdoor.
The ancient ceilings made of wood beams and pink terracotta flat tiles have been
restored in all of the rooms. The rich and elegant decoration is in the typical
style of the Tuscan countryside. You will feel wrapped in a warm and charming
atmosphere that will enchant you.
During the entire length of your vacation, you will be surrounded by nice things,
carefully maintained both inside and outside the villa.
You will feel like welcomed guests, for whom everything has been prepared with
love, to make your stay in this hospitable Tuscan land full of history, ancient
civilizations, art and tradition, even more beautiful and unforgettable.
The villa is equipped with central heating and it has a direct phone line. Wood
for the fireplace and a shared laundry room are also available.
The rental price includes cleaning at the end of the week and change of towels
twice a week. Change of bed linen is also available upon request.
As a guest of the farmhouse you will be also able to use, free of charge, a
tennis court located at approximately 1 km (half a mile).
Villa Viviana C is approximately 3 km (1.9 miles) from Montaione, where you
will find the closest shops. In the area you will be able to play golf, go horse
riding, enjoy mountain bike trips, wine and other local products tasting in
nearby farmhouses.
In the medieval hamlet of Montaione be sure to visit the church of San Regolo,
where the “Madonna del Buon Consiglio” (school of Cimabue, XIII century) is kept,
the Palazzo Petrorio, with its Natural History Museum, and, just out of the
center, the chapel of the Santissima Annunziata, with a remarkable fresco
painting of the seventeenth century.
Around Montaione there is also a large number of burgs and cities to be visited.
Besides the famous cities of art, Florence, Pisa, Siena and Lucca, which can be
reached in a one-hour drive, close by you will find the medieval burgs of San
Gimignano, Volterra and San Miniato.
A special remark is deserved by the monastic complex of “San Vivaldo”, with its
“Sacro Monte”, located at only 5 km (3 miles) from Montaione. It represents,
with its series of small chapels, a scaled down version of Jerusalem as it was
at the time of the Crusades.
The closest train station is Castelfiorentino, at 5 km (3 miles). The closest
airports are “Galileo Galilei”, in Pisa, and “Amerigo Vespucci”, in Florence,
both at approximately 45 km (28 miles).
To stay at Villa Viviana it is necessary to have a car.

The Tuscany / Firenze Province region
Located in the heart of Italy, Tuscany is surely one of the most famous Italian landscapes. The essence of this beautiful region are its natural, artistic, and cultural heritage.
Bounded by the Ligurian and the Tyrrhenian Sea (two arms of Mediterranean), this region is divided into ten provinces, whose capitals are Arezzo, Florence, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa-Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena. Florence is the capital city of the region itself.
The region was populated first by the Etruscans on the 7th century BC, and about 500 years later by the Romans.
The words Humanism and Renaissance evoke Tuscany, as immediately as Pope evokes Rome: just think that between the fourteenth and the sixteenth century, both these ages were born here. The entire region attained a very important artistic role.
If you are keen on art and nature… well you’re definitely in the right place! ;-)
Indeed the fathers of Italian painting, architecture and sculpture lived in this beautiful towns: such as Cimabue, Giotto, Brunelleschi, Donatello, Botticelli, Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo. This is the reason why the entire region is rich in museums where thousands of amazing works are kept. You’ll be impressed by the majesty of the many ancient palaces (for examples “Palazzo Vecchio”, “Palazzo Pitti”, “Palazzo Medici”), monasteries and villas that are springing up all over the Tuscany.
Spring and fall are the best times to visit Tuscany, because the climate is mild. Bus-lines and trains connect the larger towns, but having a car would be a great advantage, and you would be easily able to enjoy the small towns and vineyards, which represent some of Tuscany’s strong points.
The “Chiantigiana road” is a must to see: it produces some of Italy’s finest wines. This is the colourful and legendary road of the “Chianti" region. The grape cultivation dates back to the Etruscan times. One of the biggest pleasures will be sipping different wines, at the wineries or at the wine bars scattered in the towns.
What about a drop in on “Mugello”? It is a countryside surrounded by oaks, chestnut trees and by the Apennines, This land of artists and painters have been source of inspiration in its farmhouses and colours. with kind people, authentic cooking, good wine, plus a great tradition in handicrafts.
The Apuan Alps are a monumental work of the nature. They consist in some of the highest peaks in the region: This regional park sets up the chance for those who want to practice trekking, cycling, horse riding or simply walking to enjoy this beautiful landscape.
Versilia is an area of 20 km sandy beaches located in the north of the region. The seaside with the colourful bathing areas is rich in bars and meeting places. Camaiore, Forte dei Marmi, Massarosa, Pietrasanta, Seravezza, Stazzema and Viareggio are the towns of this beautiful coast.
Another great attraction of this region is the archipelago. The largest island is Elba: more than one hundred kilometers of coast.
Curiously enough, since the Etruscans introduced the use of fresh herbs, the Tuscan cooking is still based on vegetable dishes, bread-based soups, meats perfumed with sage, rosemary, and thyme. Moreover the secret of its success is the good care and the devotion to guarantee the quality of the products of the land... crostini of chicken liver, soups, tortelli with Bolognese sauce, “pappardelle” with hare sauce or with boar sauce, boar hunter style, fillet of beef, salted cod with tomato sauce, ricciarelli, cantucci, Tuscan salt-less bread… We’re sure your mouth is already watering!
The Montaione area
According to some archaeological finds dated back at Etruscan-Roman epochs, the charming village of Montaione has been inhabited from very ancient times. At a few metres from the old town centre you can indeed admire remains of a Roman cistern dated at the II century A.C., as well as some finds of Etruscan china in the area of Santo Stefano.
Even the Church of San Biagio, at 500 metres from the village, shows that Montaione was already inhabited in early Christian times, even though some more detailed news about it started from the Middle Ages.
As many others Tuscan towns, Montaione's name comes from an “evolution”: it probably derives from the Longobard “Allone di Lucca”, later become "Mons Allonis", then corrected as "Montacone", as written in a document of 988.
In 1118 at a distance of 2 Km from the centre of the town, it was built the “Pieve di San Regolo”: notable example of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany, which nevertheless not correspond to the historical church nowadays located at the very centre of Montaione.
Once become commune in 1257, Montaione was involved in the battles among Gimignano, Volterra and San Miniato: battles that deeply marked the Middle Ages in Tuscany.
During that period, the Castle of Montaione was ringed by sturdy walls and framed by 11 imposing towers. The urban district, crossed lengthwise by three streets (like every typical Roman camp), enclosed the Church of San Bartolomeo (today dedicated to San Regolo) and Palazzo Pretorio.
In the XIII century, in both Montaione and the near Gambassi, the locals specialized in making glassworks. Thanks to their workmanship, the craftsmen of Montaione got very well-known and popular all around Tuscany, insomuch as in 1700, a proclamation of the Grand Duke of Tuscany ordered the master glassmakers to teach this art to fellow countrymen only.
Montaione is provided with a rich network of trekking paths (some of them practicable even by bike) the crosses the territory. The routes are organized along 6 itineraries, planned in order to discover the countryside, exploiting the different areas, woods and slopes, that until a few years ago were frequented only by hunters and mushroom seekers.
