The Basse-Normandie region
Normandy has an amazing mixture of history and landscape. It exhibits an astonishing variety of scenery with its cliffs, golden sandy beaches, wooded valleys and close by the stunning Vire Valley Gorge. The Vire Valley is known for its micro climate.
Normandy offers lively coastal towns, e.g. Granville with its casino, art galleries and the Christian Dior Museum. there is a Zooligical Park on the road between Granville and Villedieu les Poeles. Villedieu is home to copper mining and has an abundance of copper utensils and bells' - with good eateries and plenty of shops, as well as museum and market well worth a visit. and close to the house. The famous Monet Gardens are worth a days visit. Other little gems on the coast are Portbaille, Carteret and Barnville. It also offers idyllic countryside villages and hamlets where you will always find a boulangerie and bar! Bayeux and all the Normandy landing beaches are a must. Brittany easy to reach.
Honfleur is called the St.Tropez of the north and is lovely just walk around, take in the Saturday market and eat outside chosing one of the many restaurants there -
Mont Saint-Michel is a rocky tidal island in Normandy, France. It is located approximately one kilometre off the country's north coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches. It is the most visited site in France and not to be missed, but get there early in the day as it gets very busy! (30 minutes). Bayeaux Tapestry is within 30 minutes and the D Day landing are within 1 hour.
This family home is in the hamlet of Montabot situated between Percy and Tessy. Both villages are about 3km from the house offering boulangerie, tabac, post office, restaurants, banks and supermarkets.
Percy has a saturday market and its worth a visit to St Lo on a saturday. There is a beautiful river that has a canoe school within 3km and horse riding and rock climbing. You will find a set of bicycles at the house that you can use. There is a booklet available when booking to know of all the activities going on. There is a local golf course as well as fishing.

"Brilliant base for a short stay in Normandy"
L'Hamel Riche is a lovely barn cottage with five double bedrooms so lots of room for several families and their children. We went for a say in October half term as the children were studying WW2 and we wanted them to experience where it was they were learning about. Everything is very close by, most trips took us 40 mins or so to reach our destination. Loads of space in the garden for the kids to run round madly and work off their boundless supplies of energy. The living room has a large open fire which we lit every night and it made the lounge ever so cosy. Huge table in the kitchen, with this heated with a woodburner. We were a two family group with parents and kids, we'd looked at lots of properties, but loved L'hamel Riche for the sapce it gave us, the location and the cost was amazing! The cottage is down a lane which is used by large farm vehicles and it can be boggy after lots of rain which was fun navigating in a BMW with its wheels spinning, but we managed fine. In summary, for a short stay in a great area, L'Hamel Riche is a lovely cottage, big enough to accomodate multiple groups, spacious enough for the kids to explore the surrounding area, and really well priced. We feel like we have 'done' Normandy for the moment, but if we wanted to return to the area we'd happily use the cottage as a base again.
