The Normandy region

The Normandy region of France combines a 360-mile dramatic coastline, including the dramatically evocative World War II landing beaches, with a verdant interior of lush farmland, bustling market towns, and historic landmarks such as the cities of Caen, Bayeux and Rouen. Gastronomic delights abound, from fine cheeses to cider and Calvados.

There is a local market in St Hilaire held on a wednesday, also excellent shopping & restaurants in the nearby town of Avranches.

Mont St Michel

Mont St.Michel lies near Pontorson on the Normandy/Brittany border.

The pyramidal shape of Mont St.Michel, set in the sand or jutting up from the waves depending upon the state of the tide, attracts two million visitors every year. It has been a place of worship for more than 2,000 years and has had a church dedicated to St.Michael for 1,300 of them. A golden statue of the Saint crowns the uppermost gothic parts of the building known as La Merveille [The Marvel]. Although some of the greatest tides in the world ebb and flow for 24 miles every six hours, the island can always be reached by a causeway with a large adjacent car-park. A narrow street, crowded with shops and restaurants, winds up from the gate to the stunning church and monastry; in summer, the wise visit either early or late in the day to avoid the crowds and the queues.

A visit to Alligator bay nearby is a must for the children.

"A fantastic house, great facilities and amazing memories."

A lovely chill out holiday with some great attractions close by. We enjoyed days out and days around the pool relaxing. Everything you could possibly need is in the farmhouse and the local shops close by encourage you to speak the language and meet the friendly locals.
