About the home

The village has three restaurants, post office, boulangerie, butcher's,hairdresser's, village general store and charming beach bars. There are three more restaurants on the cliffs , a short walk away, as well as a great new pizza/steak house restaurant in the village.
The cottage has been designed for maximum comfort for our guests and is wheel chair friendly.It is quite independent and stands in its own private garden, a south facing sun trap!
There is lots of sky!!
There is safe off-road parking.Whilst being 'in the village' it is just on the edge therefore quiet!
St Jean is a seaside village surrounded by wooded cliffs and views of Mont St Michel.It is a magical place!
It's between Granville, with its old town, and the walled town of Avranches . The Mont is a short ride away!

The cottage is fully furnished to "family home" standard and not just a holiday let! It is south facing with large, 2 metre sliding double glazed doors leading on to the garden. The kitchen window also faces onto the garden!
It has three bedrooms, with plenty of storage space in each room.The bathroom has a white suite consisting of bath, basin and separate shower.All new.
There are two separate toilets with basins.There is a laundry room with washer and dryer.
The kitchen: there is a full size larder fridge / freezer underneath, ceramic hob, double UK oven (with grill), dishwasher. and modern fitted units.
We try to provide all utensils from proper knives to oyster forks!
The cottage is open plan, with a dining area next to the kitchen and a great lounge area. There is a comfortable British style seating area with three two-seater sofas.
Cot and highchair available on request.

There is, of course, Uk/ french television of all the main channels and a DVD. We have a vast collection of DVDs ( many suitable for children). We also have a library of books for the holiday read!
The house has full central heating.
There is also a large back garden .
Large dining table with seating for six.
Seating area is next to the kitchen so no one gets 'stranded' whilst cooking!!!

The kitchen has everything you could possibly need. Teatowels are provided as are all the basics such as flour, sugar, olive oil,tea, coffee, washing powder etc.
There is central heating .

BUT nothing is set in concrete- it's your holiday and we can try to accommodate!
We provide a welcome pack but if you have any special needs it's no problem. We can book restaurants for you or get things in!

The Normandy / Manche region

St Jean le Thomas is situated on the west coast of the Manche peninsula, in the bay of Mont Saint Michel. The Manche department is one of lush green fields and orchards; long sandy beaches; magnificent sea views; rolling hills and dales and charming towns and villages. The countryside and the slower pace of life have often been likened to a Devon reminiscent of the 1950's. This is real cider-making and horse riding country. There are many outstanding places of interest within easy reach : the tapestries at Bayeux, the D-Day landing beaches, the rugged coasts of Brittany, the copper town of Villedieu les Poêles, Cherbourg's hugely popular Cité de la Mer and of course, the jewel in the crown , the Mont St Michel.

The Mont St Michel / Granville area

St Jean is a charming village with lots of character, small enough to be quaint but large enough to boast all the amenities you would need for a relaxing holiday. There are three restaurants within walking distance , a bar in the centre of the village for sitting watching the world go by and another couple of beach bars. There are many beautiful walks - through the woods that shelter the village from behind, along the cliff tops with stunning views out to sea or simply along the miles of beach that face directly across to Mont St Michel. The Mont can be reached by road or there are guided walks across the sands, either on foot or on horseback.

Whilst one can be self-contained in the village the local towns of Avranches and Granville are only twenty minutes away. Avranches is an interesting hilltop town with many existing medieaval parts and was the scene of one of the Normandy invasion's fiercest battles. Granville is a beautiful seaside town and fishing port from where you can take a ferry for a day trip to Jersey and Guernsey or to the archipelago nature reserve that faces the twon across the sea. It has an interesting local history museum, an impressive art gallery and is home to the birthplace of Christian Dior, whose house is now a fascinating musem of fashion history.

There are many wonderful individual shops and boutiques and , of course, a huge choice of restaurants offering the whole range of fresh seafood one would expect from a town with its own fishing fleet.

“Fantastic cottage highly recommended” We stayed in February 2013 and had a great stay. Excellent communication from the owners, clear directions and a wonderful location in a pretty village. The cottage had everything you could wish for, including welcome pack (very generous!) books, DVDs, cooking equipment, comfy sofas, the main UK TV channels, spare towels etc. The bed was so comfy!! The nearby beaches were perfect for our push chair as had plenty of paths. For the price this was a fantastic cottage and we have already told our friends about it. Hope to return in a couple of years when our little one is a bit older.

“Peaceful location and close to so much” We spent a week at Les Mouettes in August. The hosts were very friendly, helpful and attentive both before and during our stay. (Even down to offering to cook a chicken for us when our delayed flight meant we would arrive after the local shops had closed!) As well as being spacious, the property is the best equipped self catering we have stayed out – there wasn't a single thing that we needed and couldn't find. There is also a vast selection of DVDs, books and useful tourist information leaflets. The location is very peaceful and with comfortable beds and shutters this all added up to a great nights sleep. The village of St Jean le Thomas is easily accessible from the property on foot for eating out etc. but a car is a necessity otherwise. The property is really well placed to venture both into Normandy or neighbouring Brittany. We chose to venture further afield some days (Bayeux/Normandy beaches & Cherbourg) but this isn't absolutely necessary as Granville, Avranches , Mont St Michel which we also visited are all within striking distance. There's also a lovely beach at Carolles was a 10 minute car drive away which was very clean and with all facilities we needed. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone wanting to return at the end of the day to a real home from home.

“A clean and tidy property, well equipped with everything we needed.” A well presented and spacious open plan layout bungalow that is very well equipped. Good seating to relax and watch Sat TV [three large sofas], and a nice large table to enjoy your meals.There is also a great selection of books and DVD's and CD's to choose from. There is lots of garden to enjoy and a nice patio area adjacent to the patio doors in the living room area. Two small criticism's is there isn't a door to seperate the living room/kitchen areas from the bedrooms and this allows noise to travel [its difficult for one to have a lie in if someone else is an early riser], and the washing machine was difficult to use, but we believe that is about to be replaced. Its a nice and quiet location only a short stroll of five minutes to the village, with a further five minutes to the sea. We enjoyed our stay very much.

“Amongst the best holiday rentals I have experienced” Les Mouettes looked delightful from the advert and proved to be every bit as good as we thought. It was extremely well equipped, very comfortable and both David and Alex were excellent hosts. All in all excellent value for money and well worth a visit.

“A wonderful week...” We stayed one week at the "mouettes" and enjoyed it so much! Everything was there from towels to toilet-paper, milk in the fridge and so on! A lovely welcome-basket waitet for us, the beds were good to sleep in (not normal in france!!!) and the sun was shining the whole week. The dog loved the garden and we, too. Lots of DVD´s, books and a very helpful information-book were provided. Thank you, David and Alex for a wonderful week and such a nice contact! Martina and the other germans :-)

“A home from home on the beautiful Normandy coast” We spent a wonderfully, relaxing week at Les Mouettes at the beginning of April 2012. The property is really a home from home, with every little thing that you can think of already provided, including a very thoughtful and appreciated welcome pack. The whole property is cosily decorated and the beds and bedrooms passed the 'teenager' test - both of mine were very pleased with their rooms, as were we. The kitchen is very well equipped and the dining and living areas are very comfortable. The television was appreciated by my son and the wi-fi by my daughter. My husband loved the garden swing, on which he feel asleep in the sunshine and I just loved the whole thing, especially the views from the garden. The cottage is detached and located in a quiet area; very peaceful and relaxing. The location is ideal for visiting the beautiful Norman and Breton coast and countryside. Mont St Michel, which is only half an hour away, can be seen from the coast of the village that Les Mouettes in in. St Marlo approx an hour away. David and Alex are great hosts and we would definitely recommend Les Mouettes to anyone wanting to stay somewhere that is a home from home.

From October to March we offer the house for couples at a special low rate of £300 per week. We don't have to have the normal Saturday start day but can offer midweek starts to take full benefit of lower ferry costs.

The house is more than a "gite" but a comfortable home from home. A great place to relax and get away from it all...though a phone and WIFI/broadband connection can be provided, if requested. For those guests not wishing to drag their own computer with them we offer use of our little office to keep up with emails.

We have had this year quite a few enquiries for long weekend breaks, people wanting to get away and recharge their batteries with some good food and wine! So we are offering short breaks, midweek and weekend for £150 a couple and £190 for two couples. A chance to get some fresh sea air and fresh sea food.
