La Motaisiere
About the home
La Motaisiere is an old cottage built of granite and attached to a newly restored barn on the edge of the village. It has an open plan sitting, kitchen and dining area with 2 double bedrooms downstairs and a 3 bedded kids' dormitory upstairs. There is a bathroom with shower, bath and loo and a separate second loo.
The terrace and garden with lawn and flowerbeds face south and the shops are within walking distance. The village has a bakery with award winning brioche baked every day; butcher; coiffeur; bar and 2 restaurants. Avranches, with its lovely church, jardin des plantes, pleasant ambiance and various supermarkets is only a 10 minute drive.
There are cycle routes to Mont St. Michel and the surrounding countryside, lovely walks, yet only a mile or two off the main motorway. Contact the owner for info on hiring bikes.
The cottage is in an ideal situation for exploring the beaches of the D Day landings and visiting all the historic sites to do with World War 2. The Bayeux tapestry and Lisieux are not far away.

Enquire nowThe Normandy / Manche region
Normandy is the ancient kingdom of William the Conqueror and is a hero in this part of France! It is full of history going back hundreds of years. The churches, chateaux, cathedrals and places of historical interest are truly well worth visiting. The Tourist Offices in Avranches and Ducey are full of information and the staff all speak English. The area is still very much involved in the Second World War and the Museum, 5 mins from the house, is superbly "quirky"! All the Normandy beaches are well signed and are a 'must' - just to get a feel of what it was like 65 years ago.
The weather is just a little bit better than here. Not so wet and sometimes very warm but don't expect temperatures in the 30s. It is only 200 miles south of Portsmouth.
The Mont St Michel / Avranches area
There are many abbeys, churches and cathedrals, gardens and chateaux to visit. There is a market in a different town nearly every day. The zoo at Champrepus is a must as it is rather like a safari park. The alligator farm near Mont st. Michel is a must. (The snakes are amazing.) The beaches up the coast to Granville are fabulous and surfing on the incoming tide is exciting to say the least! The cycle routes are well marked and very quiet and walking is a pleasure.
There is a diary of all the 'vide greniers' in the cottage - if you are inclined to while away a morning looking at old junk.

When you arrive in Pontaubault over the river Le Selune, come up the main street and turn right on the bed up a tarmac road. Ignore the La Motaisiere sign and carry on up the road for about 20 yards, turn right down a new road with building plots on either side, just passed a greenhouse and a big barn turn right again onto a stony track and then immediately right again up the drive. The semi-detached house has blue shutters.

Our family loved this old house , we liked the way it was decorated, artistic, homely, clean, but not so overdone an pristine that you couldnt relax,. It was very near to some lovely places like st Malo and Mont st Michel. We enjoyed finding antique/ brocante places and cooking up family meals and eating outside. a very enjoyable week |
