Home description
Le Moulin is a fortified mill dating from the 12th century which was used by the Knights Templar in the Middle Ages. It retains the original workings down below, with the river running under the watermill in three places. The accommodation is on the first floor only. Inside the actual mill is a pleasing blend of rustic and modern. Indeed, it was featured in 'The Tatler' one year. Satellite tv is provided.
There are 5 islands in total with the property. The largest has been set out like a mini-country park, with various meandering paths bringing you to surprising little oases in which to read a book, lie in a hammock or just get away from your party to spot the abundant wildlife! You can let the others have an energetic time - perhaps playing table tennis; playing boules; canoeing; boating (we have 2 boats - a small one and a big one); fishing; playing table football; playing badminton/ volleyball/short tennis on the small court adjacent to the large pool; soaking themselves in the jacuzzi; playing on the swings, or out biking. In short, a 'get-away-from-it-all holiday' where everyone should find something to do to their liking, amidst the most marvellous location afforded by Le Moulin. A grass tennis court is planned for 2010 on the largest island.
The large 12mx7m mosaic tiled pool is 1m deep in the shallow end and just over 2m deep in the deep end. It has Roman steps at the shallow end, and a ladder at the deep end. It is surrounded by top of the range non-slip tiles. All games equipment, linen and towels are provided free of charge.
It is a Saturday changeover.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region
The region lies in the heart of the vineyards - St Emilion is only half an hour away, and Duras ( I've seen their wine in Sainsbury's!) only 20mins. It stays very green all summer and It can get very hot - 40° - but more usually the temperature stays around 28°-30° during the high season. The region boasts many markets & things to do during the summer, particularly at week-ends.
Monsegur Gironde / Roquebrune area
There is an internationally renowned jazz festival each year at the beginning of July normally ! There is a museum in La Réole which gets a very good name; a flume park near to Duras; free wine tasting all over the place; quite a few restaurants here and there. There are a couple of night markets around, and even a couple of night clubs locally now. There is the Canal du Midi quite close by, with a lovely day trip on the barge during high season - with a visit to a match museum and lunch on board if desired. The largest sand dune in Europe is situated at Arcachon, and is only 1hr 20 mins away for a nice day trip - or you can even go to Spain 3hrs away!
How to get there
The A62 from Bordeaux takes you within 20 mins of the property; Ryanair has flights arriving at Bergerac, 40mins away; Easyjet and BA have flights to Bordeaux - 1hr 20mins away. All airports do deals on hire cars.
Brittany Ferries go to St Malo - 6 hrs from door to door.

The balcony leading on from the lounge overhangs the mill race rather spectacularly - it has a swinging chair on it , table and chairs and a BBQ, too.
It is very private - once inside the watermill, it's like entering a world of your own! Various benches are dotted around the 2 largest islands, and there are 2 BBq's - one by the pool & one on the balcony. There are 6 sun loungers poolside, plus a large round table under cover with 8 chairs around it & 2 small tabes & chairs also poolside.
Further details outdoors: We have many guests waxing lyrical about the watermill ...We often hear comparisons to Narnia and even paradise! It really is a stunning location. It is quite unique.
The entire estate totals about 10 acres, and includes a couple of spectacular waterfall features. With its many and varied activities, it can be a de-stressing idyll or an energy-packed holiday for any or all of guests at the same time.
Further details
It's a great place for children - but not for young toddlers that need looking after all the while. That doesn't bode well for a happy, stress-free holiday for the parents, although of course the ultimate choice lies with you! A free cot is available, however, for babies.

Guestbook for Le Moulin
What an absolutely wonderful place - we chose it for 'that special location' for our 25th wedding anniversary, and were not disappointed with our choice. A memorable stay, made even better by those little touches of niceness that Rita specialises in! She really goes the extra mile to make you feel really special. Heartfelt thanks from both of us - a n unforgettable holiday.

A sublime hideaway! Priory Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK. Date Submitted: February 26, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2007
Eric and Rita we send our heartfelt thanks yet again for a truly wonderful holiday. The Mill is a sanctuary away from the modern day world of stresses and strains, a sublime hide away in the most stunning setting. The wildlife in abundance from the red squirrels running across the grass in the mornings to the Kingfishers flying up and down stream at 5pm. There is always something to catch ones eye even when relaxing on the island by the pool. I love the early mornings watching the Heron's daily fishing visit with a cup of tea on the terrace planning how I'm going to incorporate all the days activities. So much to do from table tennis, soft ball tennis or a row up river or perhaps a gentle bike ride. A trip out for supplies means joining the rat race again but on returning you can slip back into the serene setting once more taking a coffee out onto the veranda to feed the ducks and fish listening out for the woodpeckers. You have found a very magical home which we feel very privileged to have stayed in for our holiday returning home we feel rested and batteries recharged to join the big wide world again - Thank you so much! Jilly and Richard

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We've never been to a such a brilliant holiday home. The ad was not wrong - there's something to do for everyone. Pure bliss - and such nice owners. We're definitely coming back.
Paul & Daisy McGowen, Gloucester
I thi nk the word my teenage children would use to describe this property is 'awesome'.! Peace & quiet for us adults whilst the 'gang' went exploring the river or doing whatever in the superb surroundings of the watermill. We marvelled at the red squirrels, busying themselves foraging - unbelievably, we even saw a turtle off the barrage at the end of the island! We learned to listen for the 'creaking gate' noise of the kingfishers flashing by, and saw both the night heron and the day heron. What a place....! Thanks, Rita, for giving us the opportunity to share your Paradise if only for a couple of weeks!
