Home description
Two bedroom, one bath (with jacuzzi) apartment, 80 square meters, located in the heart of the ancient seaport of Monopoli. Situated in the quiet old quarter of this once bustling, now peaceful seaside town, on the top floor of an 18th century palazzo with sweeping views of the Adriatic sea from virtually every room. Includes a 170 square-meter rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the sea, and medieval quarter below. Within a 5 minute walk of the following: a sand beach, with its crystal clear blue-green waters; the 16th century castle and city walls; the ancient fishing harbor with its morning fish market; the farmers' market with its rich variety of locally grown olives, fruits, vegetables and herbs; and intimate restaurants ranging from the simple to the sublime. Live within, and overlooking, meandering cobblestone alleys where the sound of laughter rings from the contented local life glimpsed through the open doors of small shops and homes. This is the real Italy, at its best! The apartment itself, with its stone floors, 18th century carved wooden beams, and high ceilings, sleeps three, and provides every modern comfort including: air conditioning, central heating, gourmet kitchen with dishwasher, heated towel racks in the bathroom, jacuzzi bath, secure safe for valuables, washing machine, stereo, and brand new orthopedic beds. Furnished with antique accents, all styled with a subtle Italian flair. Overlooking a small, medieval square with its gentle fountain, adjoining 18th century church, and the stunning 18th century Palazzo Palmieri.

The Puglia/Molise region
Puglia is wonderful Region to visit in all the months of the year. MONOPOLI (from the ancient Greek name "Mono Polis" for "The One City") is located between Bari and Brindisi on the shores of Apuglia in southeastern Italy (on the heel of "the boot"). Just 45 minutes by train or car from the international airports in Bari or Brindisi. Also, only a short ferry ride, via Brindisi, from Greek Corfu, Peloponesia, and Dubrovnik in Croatia. The city and its surrounding environs contain numerous ruins dating from Neolithic, Paleolithic, Greek and Roman times, many of which may be explored. These include cave-dwellings, and the unique conical stone buildings called "Trullis" that stand as enduring reminders of ancient civilizations that thrived here centuries before the Greek and Roman occupations. The surrounding countryside includes some of the oldest olive groves on the Mediterranean, with thousand year old trees still bearing fruit. For those seeking joyful experiences beyond the local culture, this apartment is located within a mere 20 minutes, by car or taxi, from the stunning 18 hole San Domenico golf club overlooking the sea, as well as 10 minutes from the resort of Santo Stefano, with its private beach and hidden grottos, and from the sea and beaches of Capitolo.
Monopoli area
Monopoli is only 15 minutes by car or taxi from Egnatia (archeological city), Polignano, Castellana, Conversano. 30 minutes by car or taxi from Bari, Alberobello, Martina Franca, Cisternino, Ostuni, Locorotondo. 60 minutes by car or taxi from Lecce, Salento and Grottaglie (city of ceramics). The ancient town of Monopoli occupies one of the few stretches of Mediterannean coast not yet hyper-developed. There are no towering hotels here, nor chain restaurants, nor many other reminders of a more hectic, modern life. Despite its easy access via plane, train and ferry, you will feel well off the beaten track. Here, entire families stroll together at dusk, young lovers scoot about on Vespas, and numerous cafes cater to those thirsty for a hot espresso or a cold aperitivo. From your own living room, bedroom, terrace and/or even bathroom, watch small fishing boats plying their trade nearby as they have for centuries. Here, modern life and woes are replaced with the stunning beauty, the quiet contentment, and the soul-satisfying life of an ancient, peaceful town that welcomes the visitor with open arms.
