The Lombardy region
Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy, situated at the foot of the Alps, at only 30 km from Verona, 100 km from Milan and 140 km from Venice, it is very well placed for road, rail and air connections.
A rich vegetation incuding lemon trees and bouganvillae fluorishes on its shores, thanks to the mediterranean climate. Cultivation of vineyards and olive trees produces good wines and olive oil.
Lake Garda is ideally situated for excursions to the historical cities of Verona, Mantua and Venice, from the Dolomites to a performance at the Arena in Verona during the Opera Season.
Many of the masters of Italian Opera composers were born and worked around Lake Garda, such as Verdi, Puccini and Donizetti. The largest open amphitheater in the world , Arena di Verona, and the stage of Shakespeare´s Romeo and Juliet are just 30 minutes away.
Desenzano offers the best nightlife experience in the Lake Garda area, stroll down the promenade for an aperitivo in one of the trendy bars, dine in one of the al fresco terrazza's restaurants, and then you can hit the night bars, pubs, discos and clubs nearby, for an unforgettable short break or holiday experience.
The ancient fortified town of Sirmione, located on the south of the lake is home to the Virgilio & Catullo Spa Complexes, where you can enjoy one of the oldest Spa's in Italy. The picturesque Scaligero castle dates from the 13th century. The Roman villa was home to the poet Catullus.
Gardagolf Country Club
Experts consider GARDA GOLF one of the best golf courses built over the past 10 years. It stretches over an area of 110 hectares and was designed by British golfing architects. The Garda Golf Country Club is a 27-hole golf course which spreads between the Rocca di Manerba, the Castle of Soiano and the Valtenesi hills, and offers a breathtakingly beautiful panorama.
The Vittoriale, the impressive monument located in the hills of Gardone Riviera, deserves to be described as a citadel which was constructed following the wishes and plans of the poet Gabriele d'Annunzio (1863-1938). The most important points of attraction on this vast estate are the Prioria (the house of the poet) and the Auditorium or rather War Museum, where the legendary airplane SVA 10 can be admired, in which d’Annunzio undertook his famous and daring flight above Vienna. Also housed in the Vittoriale are the new shipping museum Museo di Bordo, the cruiser Puglia, the anti submarine motorboat MAS 96, the Mausoleum, the veteran cars Isotta Fraschini and Fiat Type 4. These and further curiosities are exhibited in a 9 hectare large green oasis with Mediterranean vegetation– even the Vittoriale park and the private gardens have a historical context.
The building Prioria, which was restructured and furnished according to plans by d'Annunzio, gives an insight into the poet’s life and into a whole epoch – the original furnishing and the collections of valuable objects reflect the poet’s personality and his “inimitable life”.
