The Galicia region

Galicia is a region steeped in history and culture. It abounds with natural beauty and boasts a coastline in parts reminiscent of the fiords of Norway. Everwhere you turn there is a new delight. Whether you wish to explore the walled city of Lugo or indulge yourself at the thermal baths of Ourense or Mondariz, walk in the chestnut forests or O Courel or take a boat on the Sil or Miño there is always something to see or do.

If you just wish to relax try the local river beaches or take a day trip to the coast. The climate here is variable. In the summer the nights are cool and the days sunny, but Galicia is green and the winters can be cold and wet. Spring, though, is a fantastic time to visit as is Autumn with new greens and autumn golds and reds

There are two golf courses. The nearest, A PGA course, is 5 km away, and the is a municipal course in Monforte de Lemos. During the summer most of the local councils have their own swimming pools, and Monforte de Lemos has an indoor pool as well as an excellent lido style outdoor pool for the summer.

Monforte de Lemos

Our local area, known as The Ribeira Sacra (Sacred Banks), is an area famous for it wines and vineyards dating back to Roman times. Our local wine fiesta is in June and Sober our neighbouring council holds one in April. Locally there is a PGA Golf course, Auga Santas, and Monforte de Lemos has a 9 hole municipal course as well. There are numerous walks, and one of the routes of the Camino de Santiago passes through the villlage.

Monforte de Lemos, our major local town, is worth a visit, with its Torre and other interesting buildings and wine museum, it is a small city which has various fiestas throughout the year. On my own website there are links to all the local councils and their tourist offices. All the local towns have really good childrens´ playgrounds.
