The Monflanquin area
The town of Monflanquin dates back to the 13th century, founded by the French, at a time when the English ruled much of this part of France. It is a well preserved town, steeped in history, with alleys and small narrow cobbled streets and has far reaching views across to the Chataux Biron in the distance. Each August there is the annual medieval festival for a weekend, a weekly market, shops and some very nice restaurants.
There are many interesting places to see in this un spoilt area, The town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot is set on the banks of the Lot river and founded in 1264, it has many small streets and half-timbered buildings in the shopping pedestrian area and market square. There is a good Golf course to the north near Cancon.
Well signposted walks, cycling, riding, fishing (daily and weekly licences readily available), tennis, canoeing and swimming are all widely available and popular in the region.
There are also several theme parks such as Walibi Aquitaine, located just a few kilometres away from Agen, Walibi Aquitaine is set in over 30 hectares of lush greenery overlooked by an 18th Century castle. There are numerous rides, spectacular shows and special events. Open 7 days a week from the middle of June through to the end of August, and at weekends at other times.
Parc-en-Ciel adventure park
Five different ropes courses in the trees for all ages and abilities. Harnesses and instruction are included. Also mini-golf, a small farm and the snail museum. It is near Lacapelle-Biron on the D420, north-west of Fumel. Open every day during July and August, and at weekends at other times.

The superb French Autoroute (Motorway) system makes driving here as easy as you could hope for. The main Motorways to this region are the A10 (from the north to Bordeaux), the A20 (from Paris via the A10, A71) to Toulouse and the A62 (from Toulouse to Bordeaux). The journey from Calais to Bordeaux is about 560 to 590 miles and should take around 8 hours. We are about 580 miles from Calais/Le Havre and 430 miles from St Malo. Cherbourg extends the drive by 2 or 3 hours. You can avoid the Peripherique at Paris by taking (from Charles de Gaulle Airport) the A 86 & A (& N) 186 and the A10 direction Bordeaux.
