Welcome to Peyre Blanc!
Peyre Blanc means white stone in french. This farmhouse which dates back to 1836 and was once used as a smithery, is an excellent example of the beautiful white stone that enriches the local region. The farmhouse is set on one acre of land in a scenic rural setting. It is five kilometers from the enchanting medieval bastide village of Monflanquin.
The farmhouse has been refurbished and the beautiful stone work restored. The smithery has been converted to a living room and retains many of its original features with large arched windows, solid oak work benches and forged iron tools.

BookThe Aquitaine / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region
We go every year to this region, as we have our holiday house there and find new things every year to do. Just to name a few:
Castles: Chateau de Biron, Chateau de Bonaguil, Chateau de Gaveaudun, Chateau de Duras
Day and evening markets with antiques, products of the region (cooked or takeaway), local art etc.
Other historic villages like there are Villereal, Pujols, Villeneuve-sur-lot, Penne d'Agenais, Cancon, Issigeac, Casseneuil, etc.
Other attractions like: the Pont-Canal in Agen, Grottes de Fontirou, Musee du Pruneau, Parc-en-ciel, etc.
Not to forget the may wineries around Bergerac and all the beautiful restaurants!
The Monflanquin area
The bastide village of Monflanquin was founded in 1256 by Alphonse de Poitiers (also referred to as the "Black Prince").
The village is positioned on a hilltop and offers magnificent views of the surroundings. On a sunny day, you can literally see tens of kilometers away.
It has a beautiful market place with the arcades surrounding it. Also all the little streets leading up to it are gorgeous.
There are plenty of restaurants with a high standard of food and service.
The shared local heated outdoor pool in Monflanquin is very refreshing on a hot summer day.

We stayed here for a week in September with our two young children as a side trip from a holiday in the UK, having been recommended the region and accommodation by friends in Australia. It was our first time in France and we really enjoyed it. It was a nice farmhousey place to stay in a nice part of the world, with lots to see and do, both close by, and within a couple of hours drive. Castles(!), markets, villages, cafes, and local delicacies. It is 3 or 4 km out of town and a peaceful rural location. There were fields of sunflowers blooming behind the property when we were there. We were able to get to the Lascaux Caves and back in a day at a leisurely pace and it was an amazing drive. Hope to get back and stay here again in the next few years. |
