Home description
Cante Perdit (which means either “Lost Song” or “Bird Song” in Occitan, depending on who you ask) is in the middle of farming country in South West France. Access to the property is down a private drive that takes you through small woods, making the almost two acre property extremely private and tranquil.
Cante Perdit is a lovingly restored 18th century farmhouse. The large terrace leads into the main living room, which opens into the traditional kitchen and dining area, with a table that extends to seat 14 comfortably. After the cloakroom and hallway leading to the laundry, is a second living area with a sofa bed, three large and tastefully decorated bedrooms, and two modern bathrooms. Upstairs is the fourth bedroom and a mezzanine overlooking the living area.
The private and secluded pool is swimmable from May through September (although braver souls might want to enjoy it in April or October as the air temperature is usually in the low 20s during these months). Winter is also very appealing because of the peace and the wildlife, including families of deer, birds of prey, and our neighbourhood herons. Temperatures can drop below zero, but usually the days are crisp and clear so snuggling up in front of the large open fireplace after long walks through the woods makes for an ideal winter’s day.
The stunning bastide town of Monflanquin is a five minute drive away. There are a variety of other lovely medieval towns all within half an hour’s drive, which means that there is a wonderful market within easy access every day of the week, a good selection of restaurants and shops, plus sporting facilities such as canoeing, horse-riding, tennis, golf and fishing. This area is also a haven for walkers and cyclists.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region
The Lot et Garonne is the next department to the south of the Dordogne. The rural landscape of rolling hills is broken up by streams, rivers and woodland and dotted with medieval towns and villages. Grape vines and plum trees are interspersed with fields of wheat and sunflowers, making this area a beautiful part of France.
This area is the home of truffles, confit of duck and goose, fois gras, prunes, walnuts, and a variety of wines. The local markets and shops offer a sumptuous variety of these products, as well as other seasonal produce.
Spring and early Autumn are usually dry and pleasantly warm (high teens to low 20s), while Summer is dry and hot (usually high 20s to high 30s). Mid-Winter is crisp (mostly 0-10 degrees) but usually clear blue skies predominate.
Monflanquin / Cante Perdit area
Monflanquin is 6 kms away and offers a range of restaurants and bars, catering to different tastes and budgets.
In every direction is a picturesque village or town, offering markets, restaurants, cafes, and bars. In summer, these towns and villages hold night markets, where local food and wine can be bought to be enjoyed in the town square.
Activities provided at or near these towns include: adventure park, badminton, ballooning, boating, boules, canoeing, cycling, fishing, French tuition, go-karting, golf, gourmet dining, horse riding, kayaking, pony rides, rowing, shopping, sightseeing, swimming, tennis, walking, and wine tasting.

Further details indoors: The charm and atmosphere of the old farmhouse have been faithfully retained with the addition of modern conveniences. The large kitchen and dining area is fully stocked with all equipment that a home chef would need, including two ovens, nine burners, industrial-quality pans, and professional knives.
Two of the bedrooms have super king-sized beds, and two have king-sized beds. The sleeping accommodation can be altered as the two king-sized beds can be converted to four single beds.
The bathrooms are new, but were designed with the character of the farmhouse in mind, so they have modern luxuries such as over-sized showers and a bathtub big enough for two to have a relaxing soak.
Further details outdoors: Cante Perdit is set amongst rolling farmland, surrounded by woods; perfect for lovely quiet strolls.
The grounds are big enough for a variety of activities – from sitting on the terrace, lying around the pool area, sipping drinks under the secluded willow tree, napping in the hammock, or playing five a side football.
