The Peloponnese region
The hand with 3 fingers is Greece's most exciting countryside. The Peloponese (Peloponissos) is, from a cultural point of view, one of the most interesting regions.Monemvasia is situated in the South East of Peloponnese Monemvasia means 'single entry' and it can only be reached by a causeway and a road that winds around the base of the rock for about 1 kilometer before it comes to an abrupt end in front of the fortress walls. You enter the old town through a gate which leads into an L-shaped tunnel and then emerge to see the old town which up until this point has been hidden from view! There is no entry for cars so if you are staying here you have to carry your bags from this point. The small old town consists of narrow cobbled streets and a complex network of stone houses that are clustered around the seaward side of the island and spread up the side of the massive hill. The fortress was built by the Venetians in the 16th century and the climb to the top is an exhilarating experience! An 18th century Turkish traveller said 'You can find everything you want in this city Temple of Apollo, Ancient Corinth except water.' The views over the old town are breath-taking and the sight of the Byzantine Church of Agia Sophia, perched precariously on the cliff, is well worth the effort! The rock of Monemvasia is 300 m tall and 1.8 km long. From Monemvasia the visitors have the possibility to make daily trips to nearby place such as the village and the port of Gerakas which is like a little frjod,the Monastere of Evagelistrias,the village of Kiparissi,the caves of Diros and Ano Kastania,the island of Elafonisos,the city of Mystras e.t.c.

"Gialos village beach apartments" is on the beach 10Km from the town of Monemvasia. It is ideal place for family vacations and for relaxing.Each apartment (60m2) accommodate for 2-5 persons.It has 2 bedrooms-one with double bed and the other with 2 single beds-sitting room where there is the 5th bed,kitchenette,bathrom,a/c,t.v.Sat and balcony with sea view. Also there is a large garden with pool,basketbaall court,table of ping-pong,volley,private parking and snak-bar which can provide breakfast and light lunch. To come to "Gialos" you must take the road Athens or Patras>Korinthos>Tripolis>Sparti>Molaoi>Monemvasia. 5Km before you arrive at Monemvasia you must turn at your left where there is sign "Agios Ioannis" and "Gialos beach apartments".After 2 Km you must turn at your right and after 4,5Km you will arrive at Gialos.
How to get there
By car from Athens you take the national road that goes South to Korinth and then you follow the sigs for Tripolis>Sparta>Molaoi>Monoemvasia.Five Km before your arrival to Monemvasia you must turn at your left where there is the sing Agios Ioannis and Ierakas.After 2Km you must turn at your right, you continue and after 4,5Km you will arrive at Gialos village. A slice of heaven. I recommend it very strongly .. Dazzling views, crystal clear water easily accessed, charming hosts, well appointed apartments (clean, well furnished, roomy, well laid out, simple and all you need) a nice little swimming pool, a couple of sea canoes, a basketball hoop (and ball), a volleyball court .. and a lot of wonderful rocks and sea on your doorstep .. it's a long way from anywhere and time moves in a different way. Slow down .. relax. The stars at night are ... out of this world .. the wind is bursting with refreshment. Locality is superb, local trips are fascinating and enjoyable, blue flag beaches all around, wonderful local produce easily available. Monoemvasia is an alibaba cavern of shops crammed with goodies and perfectly close enough for a night out at the restaurants on the quay. The property itself is very very well managed. I recommend it absolutely. I will go back happily."From Robert J.
