The drive to the Finca is via a good road but is quite steep in one place. It is about 2.5 miles from the village and will take 15 min by car. Monda is a typical Spanish Village situated in the mountains of the Las Nieves. If you want to experience the true feel of Spanish life you will find it in Monda. The landscape and scenery is always inspiring and never boring. You have entire life cycles taking place in front of you. Small children playing, senoritas gossiping at their front doors or shouting from their blooming balconies. You can see local businessmen having important meetings alongside the good old boys of the pueblo having their daily game of dominoes and sipping the local “fino”. You still see old farmers crossing the square with their loaded donkeys on their way to their olive and orange groves. The streets between the old white houses are narrow, curved and more designed for humans and donkeys than cars. The design of the houses are typically Spanish with there beautiful flower boxes cascading over the windowsills. Monda has several small squares. The Church Square is the main one dominated by the old church since 1505. It is surrounded by orange trees, and is the central hub for local Fiesta’s of which there are many. The huge cone shaped granite stone that presses the olives for their juice is the same one that must have been used for generations. The farmers still come in from the countryside to sell their olives to the mill. They transport their olives in big canvas sacks, loaded on exhausted donkeys. The Finca is set almost at the top of a mountain with stunning views in alll directions! the finca is beautifully decorated with wonderful attention to detail. It is ideally situated for total peace and quiet whether day or night. You do need a car and and also to be prepared for a steep drive up the mountain in a couple of places but once there you will realise the drive was totally worth it! I shall return next year and was sorry to leave such a wonderful holiday location! Totally recommend you stay at Finca Fernando! |
