Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 6
As you walk from the private tree lined drive the beauty and space of this property unfolds. The house is a 19th century Monchique granite and local stone built detached house. Its set in a maturing garden with private plunge pool, tiled pathways and patios, fruit tree terraces and cork tree woodland area. The river forms a natural border to the land. The house originally stabled the donkeys, that worked at the local mills, on its lower floor. The upper floor was accommodation. Today the lower floor is the spacious bright lounge with access to the lower patio which is partly shaded by a beautiful old pomegranate tree. The upper floor has two bedrooms, bathroom and spacious kitchen/dining area with access to the upper patio.
On site-- you can sunbathe on either patio or on the grassy fruit tree terraces with the use of 4 sun loungers. Take to the shaded area underneath the Pergola to read, sleep or indulge in a cocktail with freshly added lemon wedges picked from the gardens trees. Have a long Portuguese lunch in the sun or in the shade of pomegranate tree using the barbecue to grill locally bought fish , meat or chorico. Sit watching the birds and butterflies. At night you can dine beneath the stars. Due to lack of light pollution and little heavy industry in the Algarve the night sky above the house is a myriad of twinkling stars possibly hard to beat elsewhere in the world. The same can be said for the bluest of skies during the day. Depending on the season the fruit trees produce Lemons oranges, apple ,pears, figs, walnuts, plums, peaches, grapes, cape gooseberries, blueberries, limes, kumquat oranges and cherries.
On Your Doorstep-- Endless walking and cycling opportunities on tarmac roads or to a local mill, riverside area or picnic spot popular with Algarve residents from the coastal areas. Bird watching. A short walk on Saturday lunchtime to the very local bakery will provide you with fresh piping hot traditional loaves or local traditional rolls.
In Monchique (4.5kms away)-- A tree lined town square, where you can watch the world go by from pavement cafes, bars or restaurants. Also in Monchique there are local craft shops, galleries, banks with ATMs, public swimming complex, convent ,churches, Bronze statues, working water features , tiled mosaics and scenes.
