Villa | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 11
This really is a beautiful villa. Tucked away from its neighbours about 200 yards down a winding driveway, you could easily believe you are alone in the world in this magical spot where a pretty stream runs though the garden. Yet it is not at all remote with restaurants within 50 yards of the gateway and big towns and nightlife (if you want it) only about a 20 minute trip by car.
The villa has four bedrooms, four bathrooms (2 with baths and 2 with showers). There are three balconies and two patios plus the pool area and barbeque. The living area is a huge open plan room with wood burning stove and satellite TV. There is a separate dining room and the kitchen has direct access to one of the patios. If you enjoy walking, footpaths from the property lead to trails that cover the whole Monchique eco zone. For shopping, Monchique has an excellent supermarket and numerous small shops, while the large fishing port of Portimao is only about 18km away. Buses stop nearby for Monchique or Portimao, but a car is recommended.

Outside, the swimming pool terrace has sun loungers and a very nice BBQ plus table and chairs. The pool is approximately 10 metres x 5 metres shaped like a figure 8. There is plenty of parking space outside the house and a pretty garden with palm trees.
A rough pathway leads to a wooden bridge which spans the stream to a picturesque walk through the trees. This leads to the hills which are part of the villas grounds and then beyond to the mountain walks.

This is a very private property. From the main road, lockable gates lead to the gravel driveway which winds its way for about 200 yards to the villa. On the way, you pass beautiful mimosa trees and the ancient ruin of a farmhouse and then as you turn to the right, the villa and pool come into view. The house is built on one of several large plateaus that lead down to a stream. Most of the land you can see from the villa, belongs to it, right to the hilltop, which is why it is so secluded.
It may be secluded, but it is not remote. Across the road from the driveway entrance is a delightful country restaurant. Two other restaurants are only a short walk away. Caldas de Monchique is a unique spa village a couple of km up the road and must be visited. Big towns, nightlife, golf courses and the new formula 1 racetrack are all within about a 20 minute drive as are some lovely beaches.
The Algarve region
The Western part of the Algarve is the most unspoilt and the Silves/Portimao/Monchique area are the easiest part of the western Algarve to access from Faro airport. With this villa as your base, the unspoilt beaches of the west coast are within easy reach. The big new motor racing circuit, the Autodromo is only a short drive away, as are several good golf courses.
There are many good golf courses within easy reach to suit all levels of skill and the superb facilities at Penina are only about a 20 minute drive away and the relatively new course at Morgado is very near.
The villa is in the foothills of the Monchique mountains and only about 350 feet above sea level. These mountains are the highest in the Algarve and rise to about 3000 feet and you can drive to the top and enjoy the fabulous views. Near to the villa is the popular beauty spot of Caldas de Monchique which is often featured in TV documentaries about the Algarve. The village is about 2 km up the road and is well known for it's spa waters, its unusual houses and sub-tropical appearance.
At the villa, you can enjoy being in the countryside without being isolated. Good restaurants are right across the road and others within walking distance. Within about 20 km (15 to 20 minutes drive) on good main roads are the fabulous beaches of Praia da Rocha and Alvor, historic Silves with its magnificent Castle and Cathedral or the large shops and fishing port of Portimao. Lagos, Silves and Portimao all hold huge country markets each month which are well worth a visit. In fact, markets are held regularly in most towns so if you miss one, you can always get to another.
