Ours is a beautiful, spacious, country home with traditional Portuguese tiles on the kitchen and bathroom walls and the same lovely, light tiles on all the floors throughout the house. With 3 very large double bedrooms and three bathrooms (two en-suite), it is perfectly spacious for up to 7 people inside the house. We also have a delightful outside double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and its own patio which sleeps two comfortably.

The house is situated well back from the road on a 2 acre plot with wide open views of our garden and the rolling olive and citrus grove countryside unfolding down to the sea at the quaint village of Fuzeta with its gorgeous beaches - all from the large covered verandah. Our garden is a paradise for birds and people alike with its olive, almond, fig and carob trees interspersed with peach, nectarine, passion fruit, mango, avocado pear, pear, lemon, orange, quince, clementine, and grapefruit trees which guests can help themselves to when they are in season for their personal use.

The large, lighted pool is secluded and situated below and in front of the house with sun loungers and parasols. Peaceful, relaxing and secure, in a lovely, quiet country location, there are several local towns and beaches within a few minutes' drive of the house with a wide choice of restaurants, supermarkets and weekend markets: Moncarapacho 3.5km. Lively Fuseta with its town and lagoon beach and ferries to the islands, 5km. Exciting Tavira 10km. Olhao and its intersting, diverse market on Saturdays, 7km.

A nine-hole golf-course is within walking distance at Colina Verde. The best local fish restaurant is in Pinheiro, 5km. Faro airport 30km. Access to A22, 6km.

Our home is equipped with free internet and satellite TV, Playstation 3 and table football outside to keep the teenagers happy! We also have air conditioning/heating units in all rooms (except bathrooms and utility room) with overhead fans in the master bedroom and kitchen. The house is cool in summer and cosy in winter, with a modern wood-burning stove in the living room, and heaters in all other rooms.

The Algarve region

The East Algarve is the sunniest part of Portugal, with long uncrowded south-facing beaches. Much less "touristy" than the West Algarve, this is a rich agricultural area with traditional Portuguese villages set in lush farmland growing citrus, vines, almonds and olive trees.

The gently sloping farmland is set in a narrow stretch between the Caldeirão mountains and the sea, dotted with local villages and quintas.


Holiday homes are easily outnumbered by local Portuguese houses and farms, giving the area an authentic traditional rural feel. The area immediately around the house is good for walking, but in summer it can be very hot. There is a golf course which is part of a resort hotel just 200 metres away - again, best left till the cooler months of the year. (This hotel is presently undergoing a change of ownership, and it is not clear when the golf course will be available.)The village of Moncarapacho is 3.5 km away, with small supermarkets, restaurants and bars. The lively town of Fuzeta, with wide open beaches is just 5 km away. The lovely town of Tavira is about 10 km away, and is popular with locals and tourists alike. A variety of other small fishing villages and local centres can be found within a 10 km radius of the house.

Further afield, head up into the hills and discover hidden villages with their own traditional trades, architecture and local cuisine.

"A very comfortable and well appointed villa in 2 acres of garden with far reaching sea and countryside views."

A well located, beautifully appointed spacious villa set in extensive private grounds of 2 acres with lovely pool and a choice of outside seating areas. The property has far reaching views from both inside the villa and from the outside terraces to the sea and surrounding countryside. We really loved the spaciousness and comfort of this property of both the furniture and the beds and everything was very clean and tidy. There were covered areas outside such as the long veranda where you could find shade or shelter from rain if you had any, though we did not need it even in mid October as weather between 25- 31 degrees C and sunny. The Algarve has a Mediterranean type climate and is warmer and drier than Northern Portugal. The holiday was booked through holiday lettings and we were met en route to the property to be guided in. We have had good contact with the owner and the agent and was a painless experience. The villa is located down a road with hardly any traffic and a very peaceful spot amongst farms and smallholdings growing fruit and nuts. The garden of the property itself contains Almonds, Figs, Oranges, Lemons, Pomegranates Apples and Pears as well as flowering plants and Jasmines etc. giving a wonderful fragrance. There is an electric entrance gate to greet you at your arrival worked by remote control. There are wonderful sandy beaches nearby at Fuseta with it's harbour and fishing boats, and a natural park at Ria Formosa with wooded areas and a Lagoon which has an old mill that has been preserved, and works from movement of the tides. The beautiful city of Tavira is a must visit with it's cobbled streets, ruined Castle and river with many road and footbridges. There are many pavement cafes and interesting novelty shops to visit. We kept returning to Tavira as we fell in love with it. If you like an unspoilt region to explore, with more amenities such as a water park in nearby Faro, then this region is for you. All the locals we met were very friendly and helpful as are the Portuguese people generally. The only downside I can think of is that some of the very minor roads are a little bumpy on your cars suspension so watch out for potholes. All in all can thoroughly recommend this property for a comfortable and luxurious holiday break.

What a wonderful place - we spent a blissed out week lying in the sunshine by the pool, going to the beautiful nearby beaches and sitting in village squares drinking coffee (and later in the day, wine). The house is perfectly situated for all these things - and more (we also checked out some local Roman ruins). The house is also wonderfully well designed for any kind of holiday - lovely en suite rooms, great open dining room and lounge area, and a kitchen made for cooking all the delicious produce from the local market. But to be honest, we spent most of the time lying on loungers by the pool or on the lovely veranda looking at the sea view. I can't wait to go back.
