Clamkara House sits on a coral escarpment in the middle of 4 acres of tropical gardens. With unrivalled views looking towards the Seychells, and new hard tennis court to one side, it has an engineering feat in front, where a 16 mtr infinity pool with waterfall weaves its way along the escarpment, perched about 10 mtrs above the sea and setback some 75 mtrs from an all but empty beach.

It has a beach bar/rondavel on a private inner beach, ideal and very safe for children, alongside the Beach House, which is less than 10 mtrs from the water.

The plot is walled on 3 sides, is not overlooked and has its own driveway inside secure front gates.

The property is only 2 miles from the newest Golfing Resort of Vipingo Ridge, the first 36 Hole golf complex in East Africa (18 currently open), and by far the best in the country.

Fish and fresh fruit come to the door.

Further details indoors

The recent extension, has given Clamkara a vast sitting room and balcony, with unbelievable views over the palm trees and out to sea, that takes your breath away. The downstairs has the 3 double bedrooms, sitting room and kitchen, and covered and uncovered terraces on two sides of the house. All aspects are out to sea. The owners bedroom is upstairs and is not let.

There are many places to eat. Either on the terrace or under a rondavel to the side, and overlooking the pool and sea, where up to 16 people can eat al fresco round a stone galana table.

If both houses are taken, then the whole beach set up is available, where you can wine and dine under the beach rondavel, served from the kitchen in the beach house.

Further details outdoors

The exterior facilities are available to both houses, but should they be let separately, which is most unlikely, then the beach bar is only available to the beach house.

There are numerous places to veg out, plenty of lie beds by the pool and on the beach and sitting areas too numerous to mention.

The beach is all but deserted, and lies inside a coral reef some 1 mile offshore. Inside the reef is safe for swimming, usually at half tide onwards when the coral is covered, and of course snorkling is some of the best in the world. If you have your own kitesurfing equipment, the beach is your oyster, and if you have time, you must play golf.

Further details

The two houses are best let together, with one or two families. It is great with adults at the top house and teenagers on the beach!

The Kenyan Coast region

The Kenyan coast is divided at Mombasa, north and south. Vipingo is north coast, about one hours drive from Mombasa, and on the way to the resort areas of Kilifi, Watamu and Malindi. Clamkara is on the beach at Kuruwitu, which is right on the coast one mile from Vipingo Village. As one experience Kenyan said to me ' Kuruwitu is like Malindi was 40 years ago'.

This comment was directed at the unspoilt nature of this small 3 miles of beach, and the fact that there are no hawkers or beach bums to disrupt your enjoyment of the beach.

What has happened in the last 4 years is the development of the first 36 Hole Golf and Housing complex at Vipingo, nessled on the hillside amongst a sisal estate. This has transformed the fortunes of the area, as this is a high quality development, with a huge airstrip that will shortly take a scheduled airline to Nairobi, and the first 18 holes are the best in East Africa by a long way. It has brought welcome hostelries, and only minutes from Clamkara you can now be sitting in considerable comfort sipping your sundowner amongst international clientelle.

The climate at the coast is always hot, humid sometimes in Jan-Mar, although a little cooler in Jun-Aug with the onset of the SE monsoon.

The Ridge golf development has been described above, and out of interest further golf courses are about to start construction at Kilifi, only 20 mins away.

About 1 km south on Kuruwitu beach, there is a marine conservation project, that oversees a stretch of coastline from unregulated coral collection and illegal fishing practices. This has resulted in fish populations to increase, and the wardens are happy to take visitors on unforgettable snorkeling adventures. They also have equipment to hire.

At Kilifi there is a watersports centre, where everything from waterskiing, diving, sailing ,kite-surfing and fishing can be found.
