Further details indoors

The chalet is on two storeys and, as is usual for chalets, the bedrooms are on the lower floor and the living area on the upper floor. However, due to the chalet being built on a hill-side the entrance is on the upper floor.

On the upper floor has an open plan sitting and dining area leading onto a large balcony. The large fireplace provides a focal point for the sitting room, which is well furnished with large, comfortable sofas and a chair. There is a CD player, and a trunk full of games and puzzles, and plenty of books and magazines.

The kitchen also has patio doors to the balcony and a serving area to the dining area. The kitchen is fitted with a dishwasher, spacious fridge freezer, built-in oven and hob and is fully equipped with everything you will need for a self-catering holiday.

Also on this level is a large single bedroom, with a wardrobe and wash basin. This proves ideal for anyone unable to or not wishing to climb the stairs very often. There is also a separate toilet.

Stairs lead to the lower floor which has two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom. Each room has a wardrobe and storage space. The larger double room has French windows leading onto the patio. The other double room has a door to the indoor swimming pool. There is also a separate WC and bathroom with a twin basin and bath, with a shower attachment.

The pool room is reached from the lower floor. The heated pool is 9 x 3.6 metres and has an even depth of 1.5m, with ladder steps into the pool, and underwater lighting. The water is automatically heated, filtered and cleaned using an ultra-violet light system, fortunately meaning very little chlorine is needed. There is a pool-side sitting area and a large shower unit. Next to this, through the laundry room (with washing machine and tumble dryer) is the large three bedded sauna.

The 'studio', with its own separate entrance, has two sets of full size bunk-beds and an en suite washroom with WC. There is also a chest of drawers and a hi-fi. It is ideal for older children who want a little independence from parents – or vice versa!

Further details outdoors

The chalet and garden offer glorious views of the surrounding valley and mountains and is a wonderfully restful place. The private garden is bordered by trees and shrubs and there is a large patio with a table and benches for al fresco eating in summer and it is ideal for barbecues and sunbathing. La Taupiniere is level to the quiet cul-de-sac road and has a parking area for two cars.

Further details

The chalet is only rented as one unit.

About this location

The Canton of Fribourg region

Lau Taupiniere is located in a small mountain village with stunning views of the mountains above and the valley below. It is a wonderful area for walking, relaxing, and visiting the sites and sights (of which there are many).

There is plenty to do within an hour’s drive of the chalet, more than enough to keep you amused for the duration of your stay.

In the valley below Moléson lies the pretty, ancient, hill-top town of Gruyères. Encompassed by an outstanding chateau and ramparts, it boasts some very pleasant restaurants and boutiques.

About 10km away is the market town of Bulle, also with a chateau at its centre, providing all the normal amenities of a small Swiss town, together with a folk museum, art gallery and a local market on Thursday mornings.

To the east the Jaun Pass, the most mountainous in the Fribourg Alps, leads to the Jungfrau and Interlaken regions in the Bernese Oberland. To the south east lies Gstaad and Chateau d'Oex, favoured by the rich jet-set, and good for skiing, walking, or taking in the beautiful scenery. Bordering Lake Geneva are the towns of Vevey, home to Charlie Chaplin, Montreux, famous for the jazz and film festivals, Lausanne and Geneva.

To the north are the ancient towns of Fribourg, Murten, Basle, and the Swiss capital, Berne.

The area is great for those into adventure sports such as canyoning, paragliding, and mountain biking.

"Not What it Seems!"

This house has its good points. The location is excellent. The pool and sauna facility is good. The family bathroom is good and the lounge seating area is comfortable.HOWEVER –The house is too smal… More

Thank you for your review & highlighting the points you thought were good.
We are constantly working on, & upgrading the chalet wherever possible & this has been the case since we purchased it in 1988. Also in that time clients' requirements have changed & the demand is for more luxury. The house is small for 11 people & we are planning to turn the studio into an en-suite twin/double bedroom. This would also give the chalet an extra shower room. The chalet would then sleep 9 people maximum.

The kitchen is small, but it is well-equipped. We find that there is generally only one, or maybe two people in the kitchen, even for a large group & this works fine. Sadly it is not something we can easily change. With regards to cleanliness I was there just a month earlier & spring cleaned the kitchen. We had guests staying afterwards, & our cleaner does her best in the 6 hours between clients.

The chalet was constructed in 1978 & the bedrooms are quite small, but certainly no smaller than most houses (in Switzerland & the UK) of the post war period. The twin bedroom is fine for two adults - we have had many friends, family & guests stay in that room.
The pool was constructed by the previous owners & we have tried with various planners to change this over the years but with no success. As this is a holiday home, people tend not to travel with much luggage, & not to spend much time in the bedrooms.

The spiral staircase complies with building regulations, including UK building regs & is not steep. If we were to add a handrail it would make the staircase narrower which we do not feel would enhance the safety of the stairs.

I am very surprised you felt the downstairs smelt & felt damp. Again, we were there in July & everything was fine. Perhaps the previous tenants left the pool room door open. There is an automatic closer on the door to try and prevent this happening, along with a notice on the door.

There are no locks on the internal doors. There used to be keys for each room & these were lost by various tenants over the years, & we were informed of the problem of children locking themselves in to rooms. I shall look into adding locks to the bathroom doors.

We would love to add a toilet near the pool. It is a logistical & planning problem.

There are steps & a path in the garden down to the pool. The rest of the area is grassed & not 'muddy' unless it's rained heavily.

During our visit in July we cut back a lot of Virginia Creeper on the pergola & balcony. However, we actually like the way it drapes over the building & offers some shade in summer, but our taste is clearly not for everyone. The windows were not covered in 'growth' as I cleaned all the windows in the chalet, inside and out just a few weeks before your visit.

As the chalet has the bedrooms on the lower floor and living room on the upper floor (as is normal for chalets) then yes, the access to the terrace is via the bedrooms. However, since I assume people only eat outside if it's sunny, then the access is also via the garden. And yes, it's a slope (with a path) – that's what being in the mountains generally means!

The barbecue to which you refer isn't even ours & was left by the previous tenants.

With regards to wifi – we now have wifi (as of 8 October 2014). However, at no time on HomeAway, via which you booked, was wifi mentioned as a service in the chalet, & nor was it mentioned on our own website.
Our prices are low considering our location & facilities. The swimming pool is expensive to maintain. We rent the chalet to cover the running costs, not to make a profit.

"Perfect place for a long weekend with friends (also family friendly)!"

We spend this year's Easter weekend at la Taupinière with a group of friends from abroad. There is a bus that takes you to Moléson-Village, but it's much more convenient to get there by ca… More
