The Costa de Almeria region
This region of Almeria is relatively unspoilt by tourism and benefits from excellent year round temperatures. This is an area of Spain where there are no high rise buildings and is easily reached from Almeria airport (50 minutes), Murcia (1.5 hours), Alicante (2 hours). All of which are served by low cost airlines.
There are several excellent golf courses nearby. The Cabo del Gato-Nijar nature reserve is especially popular with walkers.
Mojacar / Turre area
Turre is a small Spanish town set against the Sierra Cabrera mountains which creates a spectacular backdrop and an ideal base from which to explore. Turre holds an open market each week and this is a great opportunity to purchase local produce. Less than 10 minute drive from long, sandy beaches of Mojacar and Garrucha with plenty of free parking on the beach fronts and lots of shops, bars and restaurants along the promenade.
How to get there
Turre is easily reached from Almeria airport (approx 50 minutes), Murcia (1.5 hours), Alicante (2 hours) all of which are accessible by low cost airlines such as Easyjet.
