Below are some of our guests' comments during 2009:
Via Email/comments posted on other web sites in 2009:
12th to 26th September 2009 - Pat & Graham from Northampton We have been absolutely delighted with our holiday in Casa En La Colina. Set in the peaceful village of El Pinar with mountain and sea views. This spacious villa had all we wanted and was ideally located for a relaxing break, a safe environment and base to tour the real sites of Spain. The friendliness and service from the owners was faultless. The description of the villa as detailed, delivers every thing it says on the tin. Our decision to rent was through recommendation. We will definitely be coming back and we highly recommend the villa to others.”
7 October 2009 by Mark Stenhouse & family, Hereford (Stayed 1-14 August 2009) "Our holiday this summer was probably the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation we have had for many years. The villa was extremely comfortable and the views from the different levels were breathtaking. Having the pool was an essential feature, which was where we spent a great deal of our time during the day. The local bar/restaurant in the village was very handy and the owners were particularly hospitable. The local restaurants which we visited did not disappoint, with the Miramar at Bedar, our favourite. We didn't travel too far afield as we wanted a relaxing holiday, however, we did visit a local Water Park and had a day out at Mini Hollywood, which were both good value. We would definitely consider returning to the villa next summer as we feel that there is a lot more to explore locally and the accommodation was ideal for what we wanted. Thanks once again for a lovely stay."
1st July 2009 by Laurence, Cornwall (STAYED IN MAY 2009) "The villa is extremely comfortable and spacious, with a mix of both shaded and sunny areas to use throughout the day. A good size pool with great views towards the coast and a seemingly regular cooling breeze that picks up about 11.30am! A must during periods of high temperatures. The village is being developed with proposed amenities but if you wish to wander the hills there are numerous walks amongst the hills to try out. Facilities to shop and loads of restaurants on the coast .... The Family have been here three times."
Below are extracts from the villa's guest book (available for you to read upon arrival):

The Costa de Almeria region
The countryside around El Pinar/Mojacar is what some people would call 'Real Spain' and comes under the province of Almeria. The towns and villages are Spanish in character and you are likely to see donkeys bringing sugar cane in from the fields and herdsmen walking their goats over the mountains. Local wildlife includes wild boar, genet, fox, weasel, deer, grouse and tortoise!
There are daily local markets which cater for both locals and tourists.
The Mojacar area is Spain as it used to be; small villages in the hills (some with a small bar for drinks and tapas), orange, lemon, almond/olive groves and goatherds. This is a slow way of life that is disappearing.
The area is also famed for its troglodyte villages where cave dwellers have fashioned their extraordinary homes out of the soft rock. As well as the modern-day 'troglodyte' villages, there are also prehistoric caves at the nearby town of Sorbas, as well as Roman and Moorish remains.
Tourist centres have built up on the eastern coast of the province at Mojacar and on the southern coast, west of the city, at Aguadulce, Roquetas de Mar and Almerimar. In these areas you'll find good beaches, marinas, international restaurants, hotels and sports centres. At the eastern corner of the province (at the south east tip of the Spanish mainland) lies the Cabo del Gato-Nijar nature reserve with its desert landscape and rugged coastline peppered with small coves, only accessible on foot.
There are opportunities for sightseeing both in the immediate area and further afield. There are spectacular views (and driving) on the roads from Mojacar to Carboneras and beyond to the mountain coastline of Cabo de Gata, offering secluded beaches and coves. In the other direction, towards Villaricos and beyond, there are numerous small coves and inlets with small beaches.
For those of you who don't mind travelling for apx 2 hours and want a complete full day out or overnight stay, there is the magnificent Alhambra, situated in Granada.
This area of Spain is the ideal destination for those of you who are seeking a peaceful holiday, with a mix of traditional Spanish villages whilst having easy and quick access to the coastal area of Mojacar Playa which boasts a night-life that would satisfy most.
ALMERIA PROVINCE: Turre & Mojacar come under the Almeria Province. This province has escaped mass tourism and the high rise buildings which are now evident on the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol. The Province is located in the South East corner of Spain, bordering the provinces of Granada and Murcia. Unlike other popular holiday resorts it is still relatively un-commercialised and it is only in the last few years that tourist development has taken place. Almeria Province is one of the last refuges of unspoiled coastline and has retained the old-world charm and atmosphere of traditional Spain!
The city of Almeria is located on the Costa Almeria (coast) at the eastern edge of Andalucia. This is probably the least known of all the Spanish costas although tourism is a growing industry here with holiday resorts developing to the east and west of the city.
The coast is the driest and warmest in Spain (most probably the best in mainland Europe), with an average rainfall of 11" and an average annual sunshine of 320 days. The sea temperature is warmer in winter than its air temperature, making swimming an all-year-round, enjoyable, activity. The overall annual average temperature exceeds 18C, with the winter temperature rarely falling below 13C.
The Almerian interior offers many geographical variations for exploration - coastal coves and inland desert areas. There are also picturesque national parks including the Santa Maria park in the north and the Sierra Nevada mountains natural park in the west of the province that it shares with neighbouring Granada.
Mojacar / Alfaix area
EL PINAR VILLAGE:
El Pinar is a small village nestled in the foothills of the Sierra los Filabres mountains and is approx. a 10 minute drive from the delightful coastal resort of Mojacar and the fishing town of Garrucha. El Pinar is located between the small inland towns of Los Gallardos, Alfaix and Bedar. The location is an ideal base for those wishing to relax and unwind as it has good access, not only to the more popular coastal resorts, but is also close to the more traditional inland Spanish towns, such as Bedar and Turre.
The villa is a 2-3 minute stroll to the centre of the village, where one will find the local bar/restaurant offering a full, 'a la carte' menu and daily snacks.
LOCAL FACILITIES: There are numerous Spanish 'tapas' bars and restaurants offering traditional Spanish and international cuisine which are located at the many nearby villages. The small coastal and inland towns of Turre, Mojacar, Bedar & Garrucha are all within a 5 to 15 minute drive of the villa and offer an abundance of Spanish bars and restaurants serving anything from traditional Spanish cuisine right through to mushy peas and chips!
Value for money and Spanish hospitality can certainly be guaranteed and, although the service may be 'laid back', the Sangria is very good for building up one's appetite! The nearby villages of Mojacar, Garrucha and Vera offer beaches and many other facilities.
There are numerous supermarkets (Spanish and English), banks, hospitals, doctors and dentists. On the leisure side, there are hotels, a marina, plus an array of international restaurants and varied night life plus all the things you would expect in traditional Spain.
There are numerous outdoor village/town markets held all around the area, one of the largest being held in Garrucha (fishing village) on Fridays and in the large town of Vera on Saturdays.
Medical services can be found in numerous local villages and we have found that the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), (application for which can be found at www.dh.gov.uk/travellers or from Post Offices in UK), although not acceptable in some places, is very useful in this area.
Sporting facilities in the area include, golf, horse riding, pony trekking, tennis, squash, green bowling and go-karting. On the 17 kilometres of beaches, which have been granted 3 blue European flags for their cleanliness, one will find wind surfing, water ski-ing, sea caneoing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, scuba diving, jet skis and, of course, the obligatory banana and sausage rides! There is also an Aqua Park situated on the Villaricos Road, toward Vera - well worth a trip for those with children.
MOJACAR: Mojacar is appx. 10 minutes drive from the villa and is sandwiched between the mountains of the Sierra Cabrera and the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean. Mojacar is the largest and most popular tourist centre of this south eastern corner of Spain. The present day town ('pueblo') has developed from one of the most ancient communities in the whole of Spain with a history which stretches back more than 4,000 years. The area has been dominated by many but the Moors had the strongest influence of all and to this day the old town of Mojacar resembles a Moroccan village more than an international tourist resort.
A visit to Mojacar is well worthwhile, with its twisting labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets, old arches and domed houses, stacked one above the other. Mojacar pueblo (old town) has magnificent panoramic views overlooking the mountains, valleys and sea and is filled with superb restaurants, small privately owned boutiques, charming squares and intimate bars. Only 2Km away from the pueblo, down at the seafront, you are in another world of international restaurants and bars offering a wide variety of Spanish and International cuisine. Here all residential buildings are restricted to 2 storeys and hotels to 3 - you can see why the village is aptly named and famous throughout Spain as 'El Rincon del Embrujo, "The Corner of Enchantment". The result is a lively resort which offers plenty of activities for the foreign holidaymaker whilst retaining its traditional Spanish charm and character.
