The Costa de Almeria region
The Costa de Almeria is the northernmost province in the region of Andalucia in south east Spain. The region enjoys over 300 days of sunshine each year and is one of the driest areas of Europe. There are some outstanding areas of beauty, some of which have been used as movie locations – Indiana Jones, Lawrence of Arabia and many spaghetti westerns were filmed in Almeria. The Cabo de Gata Natural Park features forests, cliffs and deserted beaches.
Travelling South from San Juan along the rugged coastline you will reach the sandy beaches of Puerto Rey and the bustling town of Vera, from here you will pass through the fishing villages of Villaricos and Garrucha then on to the livelier resort of Mojacar with its whitewashed old village and vibrant beach resort. Heading inland you will find the popular town of Turre just 10 minutes from the coast, a short drive up into the hills brings you to the village of Cabrera overlooking the golf resort of Cortijo Grande and slightly further inland you will find the villages of El Pinar and Bedar boasting stunning views of the coast.
This wonderful region boasts a contrast of scenery with a combination of golden sands, rugged coves and arid desert landscape all set against the backdrop of spectacular mountains with their ever changing colours throughout the seasons.
Mojacar / Mojacar Playa area
Mojacar is made up of two areas, Mojacar village and Mojacar Playa. The old Moorish village or “Pueblo” is perched on the hillside overlooking the coast. Mojacar Pueblo is a fascinating maze of winding streets with whitewashed houses stacked one on top of other in a ‘sugar cube’ effect, where time has stood still for hundreds of years, since the Moors built occupied this part of Spain.
The heart of the village is the main square, the Plaza Nueva where a tempting array of bars and restaurants can be found alongside shops offering local crafts and souvenirs. Sit and enjoy a chilled Sangria or beer and take in the amazing views of the coast and surrounding countryside – in winter you can see as far as the snow capped Sierra Nevada Mountains. Mojacar Pueblo is well worth exploring, with a surprise around each corner. The village comes alive during the ‘Fiestas’ ……. The colourful and traditional Moors & Christians in early June and the lively San Augustin Fiestas at the end of August.
Mojacar Playa is the liveliest section of the coast. Although popular with both British and Spanish holidaymakers, this pretty beach resort has not been spoilt by high rise development and still retains much of its laid back Andalucian charm. Mojacar Playa boasts a wide selection of bars and restaurants catering to all culinary tastes, beachside cafes or “chiringuitos” offering freshly cooked fish and paella. For the “night owls” during the summer months one can enjoy the atmosphere of the popular beachside night club. Water sports are in abundance, with banana boats, donut rides, water skiing and scuba diving on offer.
For those who prefer to keep their feet on terra firma, the bustling commercial centre will satisfy the needs of any “shopaholic”! Mojacar is home to the Marina de la Torre 18 hole golf course by the sea with stunning views and lush fairways also, currently being constructed is a new 5 star golf resort on the edge of Mojacar at Playa Macenas.

Further details indoors: As you enter the villa through the antique style double doors, you instantly have a relaxed feel! The spacious cool hallway leads to all ground level rooms and modern wide stairway leads to the upper and lower floors offering lots of lights with glass and stainless steel ballustrade.
The kitchen is modern with black granite worktops, integrated appliances, twin ovens which are operated individually, large 6 burner hob and breakfast bar. This leads to the open breakfast area complete with large table, sea views, satellite flat screen TV and a fully functioning original "Wurlitzer Jukebox" including original "45s".
Archway leads to large airy "formal lounge" with sumptuous furnishings yet in a cool minimal style. Large fireplace provides a focal point and guests are invited to enjoy books from the ceiling height bookshelves. Flat Screen TV provides UK channels. Double French Doors lead to dining terrace with large teak table a perfect spot to make use of the gas BBQ and enjoy al fresco living. The sea views are wonderful. Steps lead down to the lower terrace where you find the freeform swimming pool, pretty garden area and space for sunbathing plus a further area with seating, perfect for a cool beer after a lunchtime swim!
On the same level are 2 spacious bedrooms with fitted wardrobes and tasteful furnishings which each have a luxurious en suite bathroom, plus a cloakroom/WC and utility/laundry room.
Up to the first floor, at the top of the staircase is a large open plan lounge area with separate satellite TV system, 32" flat screen and DVD, ample seating in the form of modern L shaped sofas, coffee table and doors to large terrace.
The terrace on the first floor is "supersized" an amazing amount of space for soaking up the sun, enjoying the tremendous views and a cushioned seating area and teak table. The terrace wraps around the side and front of the villa and the south east aspect ensures all day sunshine!
On this upper level are 2 further large airy bedrooms and family bathroom, both bedrooms have wardrobes and lead to the huge upper terrace.
Finally, on the lower level of the villa is a huge area, one section dedicated to "fun" in the form of dart board, table tennis table, pool, "air hockey table, excercise bike, step machine. In the same area is a large "banquet style" table and chairs plus comfortable sofa and chairs, a great area for relaxing, dining and having fun! Leading off this room is a reading lounge complete with sofas, a perfect escape.
All main rooms are fully air conditioned with "ducted" system combined with individual units. Bathrooms are fully tiled with quality fitments. The furnishings throughout the villa are exquisite with a mix of contemporary and traditional pieces. Interesting prints and artwork adorn the walls and the high gloss floor tiles reflect the light perfectly.
The villa is in a perfect location, just 150 metres from Mojacars sandy beaches, restaurants, shops and bars, yet is set back from the main promenade, providing the best of both worlds.
